LOL, dunno, sweetie. My new item that's waiting somewhere, with Santa, is the new Kindle tablet Scribe or whatever it's called. I wish I knew how my Xmas lists somehow morphed into "stuff I need for the business," rather than "stuff I wish somebody nice and handsome would buy for me, b/c I would never buy it for myself." LOL. It's right up there with getting a vacuum for your first Xmas gift from your (then-new) Hubby. My fist Xmas with my ex, I was at that moment forced to acknowledge that a man who would buy me a VACUUM for my first Xmas with him was probably not the man of mah dreams. (sigh). Hitch |

Was the toaster good for the 2nd year gift? For my wife's 60th birthday, I got her a good pair of compact binoculars. That was to go with the cruise we were going on for her 60th. Sometimes you only have a choice between what you need and what you want when it comes to a gift. My problem is that some of what I want is not cheap. Just sayin'. Hell, Mr. H and I buy each other practical stuff now. But that wasn't the case {mumble} years ago, bygod. There needs to be a little life left in the old carcass! Hitch

Unfortunately for me, by the time Christmas/Birthday/Anniversary/Friday rolls around and it is time to get the gift I just know she would love...she's already gotten it for herself. Sooo I'm stuck with asking her to make sure she writes my name on the "from:" on gifts so I know that I got her, and the kids/grandkids/dogs/cats, something... I mean seriously... even the totally frivolous, or sometimes scandalous , gift ideas end up being duplicates.... |

In my case, unlike yours--I'm SURE--it's simply that, let's not kid ourselves, he can't be bothered. I mean, whomever said "it's the thought that counts," understood what it's like to have no thought at all given. Hitch

The thing is, it can be difficult to find a gift.

Maybe write her a beautiful poem... you know, one that Artie or Jellby would be proud of. Make sure the HTML code looks brand spankin' clean too—with indentation to match! What gift could be better than that? None. I know. |

Now, my dad was kind of clueless about things that she might REALLY like and had bought, for $500 mind you, one of, if not the first, cordless phones. Which sounds great, until you realize that back then a cordless phone was *not* what we think of as a MOBILE unit. It was a Rovafone. http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/f...p?topic=8379.0 My mother had been hoping for a lovely piece of JEWELRY. She was realistic about her prospects of that, but the fact it was a phone, which she had no particular need for and the high cost of said phone, sent her totally off! It did NOT help that when she asked what she would use such a thing for, my dad suggested that she could take it out back to the laundry room (attached behind the garage) and be able to answer calls there while doing laundry. Honestly, she'd probably have preferred a nice vacuum to that dang phone. Which sat around more or less unused. It may run in the family. My brother once gave me a fluorescent light bulb for Christmas. And, to top that, he gave my anti-gun sister a pistol and made her cry, NOT with joy.... His idea of Christmas shopping was to run through Walmart on Christmas Eve and see what was left on the shelves. His wife now does his shopping for him. My husband is also clueless and only rarely has come up with a nice surprise gift. I'm a realist and it's best just to drop strong hints as to what I might actually could enjoy and use.

Last Christmas my step-son and I both got my wife gift cards for Pandora so she could get what she wanted. That worked out very well.

I agree. My husband is very hard to shop for. He has no hobbies, he never seems to need anything besides clothes/shoes and if you do spend significant money on something he *says* he wants, the chances are quite good he will open the box, look happy, AND THEN NEVER ACTUALLY USE WHATEVER IT WAS. I'm devastated that there's no new Kindle Oasis to get him, would've solved this year's shopping ... because I'm seriously running out of ideas after almost 20 years! |
