David is undoubtedly right that after the firmware for Mark 3-7 is released, you will have to do a factory reset to delete unnecessary files. It makes little sense to install this firmware on old devices, therefore.

this new firmware(kobo8 4.29.18730) currently works fine on my Kobo Elipsa (Mark 8),

only one bug: when i open Bluetooth the Wi-Fi is automatically turned on without check ....

The way these are tied together, I'm not surprised by that happening. But, it is annoying. Can you turn them off separately? Has anyone seen this on the Sage?

But you can always downgrade to an earlier firmware, if this is really important to you.

I'm supposing it's the firmware, but I ave an issue with my Sage, it sort of freezes once in a while when I want to change page. The reader becomes unresponsive for 10 seconds and then comes back to life. Except once, I had to hard reboot the reader.

Except for anyone getting this firmware OTA, I.e. Sage and Libra 2 owners, and I think even Elipsa owners, there’s no firmware where this patch worked. And for everyone else upgrading to this particular firmware via side loading it from the mark 8/9 packages would have detrimental effects.

Much as I do enjoy Jon being corrected, I think this might be an instance where his dogged determination to ignore outliers (meaning anyone who doesn’t do as he does) actually resulted in a correct response.

Well, the person who complained about the issue said they were still waiting for it to be fixed. I took it to mean they had been waiting for a while already and were not aware about the existence of the patch. I don't know which device on which firmware they have, as they have no recent Kobo device listed on their profile.

Yes, if they have the Elipsa or one of the latest Kobos, they're pretty much screwed for now, unfortunately.

Question It the browser out of beta?
Hey everyone,

While I still wait this to hit my Elipsa (I won't try to install... yet), I have a question: is the browser out of beta? Is it storing cookies?

The reason I ask is... I got really disappointed (this is the only true disappointment) when I tried to use the browser and figured out it was not storing any cookies, specially the ones that hold sessions authenticated. So every time I would like to use a service, boom... had to log in again.

Also I hope the writing experience got better.

Thank you so much for sharing all your findings.

The browser is not out of beta, and never will. It has been part of the Beta features since it was added to Kobo firmware. Which was at least 10 years ago. It is very much a secondary function on the device. And the support reflects that. Kobo does fix problems, but, not necessarily quickly.

The other thing is that this is a relatively primitive browser. But, I would have said it supported session cookies. Cookies are not saved between session, but, I have been able to sign into some sites and keep working. I just tried the Kobo book store and that worked. Overall, the site doesn't work very well in the browser, but, I was able to sign in and continue. It probably depends on the site and how it does this.

As of release 5.13.6 it's still called "Experimental."
