Open ebook with viewer WITHOUT opening Calibre Database
Okay, ever since I've updated to 5.xx, I noticed that whenever I try to open an ebook while calibre is closed, it will then automatically open calibre and add said book to the database.
This has not happened before and I'd like to know if there's a way for me to be able to open ebook without starting calibre and adding said ebook into the database, like an independent ebook reader. I saw a post sometime back with a similar issue but the solution was for mac, so I'd like to know if there's a way to fix it for windows. I have checked preferences of book calibre and the ebook reader and not found anything that made adding and force opening calibre a thing for the ebook viewer. |

You need to set the properties for the Filetype (EPUB?), open with, to the (Calibre2)/e-book-viewer.exe |

Windows has a 'feature' of being able to nominate programs that Windows will offer in the Open With list for a file type, but if the existing default program disappears Windows will use the first one on the 'offer list' as the Default ![]() As almost always Kovid has provided a solution ![]() See WARNING-on PC Calibre takes over MANY file associations in particular Posts #27 and #38 BR |

![]() Unfortunately, there used to be the practice of some software UPDATES that would ALWAYS set themselves as default, irregardless of any prior settings. ![]() (I would have to put thing BACK to my preferred way) AFAIK Calibre just registers itself as a possible handler for various file types and only becomes the default if it was FIRST for a type. |
