How long do you suppose that will take to go through all those books?

That's incredible, I'm now 25% full with some audio on there. I do have other devices and a laptop though, so they share the load a little.

My thoughts exactly. Until they have folders or tags and hopefully way to restrict search to a subset of my content, I'm not putting that much stuff on my Kindle.

So, it turns out, letting your Kindle 2 get to less than 50MB of space is not good for it. I experienced:

1. Random lockups doing searches outside of books.
2. Lockups doing searches inside of books.
3. Lockups when trying to start text-to speech.

So, I've deleted some more files. I've also cleared out the indexing directory and letting it re-index from scratch for a few days. (I don't think old indexes are deleted when old books are deleted or disappear.) We'll see how it does. None of the lockups were fatal; just required hard reboots every time.

Over 3000 books on Kindle 2

I purchased a zipped file of over 3000 books from http://www.mobilereference.com/
After unzipping all the author files. I loaded them onto the Kindle 2. Right now, there are about 3300 books available on the Kindle 2 and I still have 642Meg of memory available. I am currently reading the L Frank Baum selection.

However, the Kindle 2 continued to operate normally; it just stopped indexing, and couldn't download new content. I deleted 250 or so titles and it resumed downloading periodical updates and began indexing again. I'm now at 1445 books.

It used to take about 15 seconds to index a new book when I first added them; now it takes 1-2 minutes.
