Maybe mine is "stuck" (by me) at 5.9.7 instead of 5.10.7? I can't remember for sure now. I left the PW3 up in Idaho when I came to Texas, optiing to bring the "EOL'd" (but still quite useful) PW2 — stuck "forever" at 5.12.2 — instead.

As the highest 5.10.x Amazon released is 5.10.3 afaik, I'm betting your PW3 has 5.9.7.

Lol, a bunch of my PW3s are still on 5.8.11.

Just out of curiosity, what happens if you manually update your kindle and use the wrong firmware file? Is there any checking in the update process to make sure it's using the correct update?

OTA update binaries have identifiers indicating what devices they're for and there's a checksum verifying the package hasn't been corrupted. On up to date firmware (>5.8.7.x), there's also a version check to make sure you're installing same firmware version or higher than the one currently on device.

Failing the checks results in an error message and the update.bin file being deleted with no harm done to your Kindle.

Yes there is a check for customers updates (not for factory updates used for jb).

Just tried upgrading to 5.13.2. Hasn't worked and my PW appears to be dead. Have tried to restart a couple of times but has failed each time. Any help please?

PW4 has few changes, just wish they would make it easier to change brightness, use the touch screen like they do to change font size.

My PW won't restart after apparently performing the upgrade. It appears to stall about 90% into the restart process. I've tried restart again at least 3 times with the same result. It just shows a white screen and I cannot access anything else.

I think it is 5.9.7. I guess it has to be if 5.10.x only went to 3. My old brain must be missing a cog or two in its gears. (Unfortunately I think it's EOL, so no updates forthcoming.)

Well, crud, that's not good. Was it something like this that got the 5.12.3 firmware pulled for the PW3? (I can't remember for sure what the issues were.)
