Incidentally, of the 'new' authors I've read this year, Stephen George was a great find. Really enjoyed Nightscape. Definitely want to read more by him.
Jonathan Janz I also enjoyed. Children of the Dark was a fast moving rollercoaster that I recommend. Though the main character came of as a bit of a Mary Sue. He always seemed to say the correct thing and came off as wiser than his years and more honest than most real people would be. Dan Simmons Summer of Night is up next. |

Grabbed all the recent recommended, the two from Ambrose, and Koko
This is fast becoming one of my favorite threads on this forum As a side note, for those who ordered from Flame Tree Press a few weeks ago, some of the orders are slowed/delayed. They announced on Twitter. Several of my friends received theirs, but not for me yet. |

If you like really cheesy horror novels from the 1980s, then you may wish to check out William W. Johnstone. His series of five related novels are on sale: four of them at 99 cents each, and one at $1.99.
Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...oreType=ebooks These were published, I believe, by Pinnacle/Zebra in the 1980s. |

I can recommend this Jonathan Janz novella that I just finished reading: Witching Hour Theatre. This is my first encounter with Janz - thanks to your head's up, I believe, on a few posts back - and I look forward to reading more by this writer. ![]() |

I had that feeling when I read Clive Barker's Books of Blood and I had that feeling reading Nightscape (not that Nightscape is of the same stature as the Books of Blood). |

Right now, I'm reading Summer of Night by Dan Simmons and I love his writing. There's horror authors that can spin a really good tale and/or they are masters of pacing. Like Richard Laymon for example.
Then there are horror writers that are really terrific writers (not that they can't also be excellent at tale telling/pacing). These authors are much more rare. I'm thinking of Stephen King, Peter Straub, Bentley Little, Clive Barker. People like that. Dan Simmons definitely fits in with the second group of writers. Summer of Night is a book I keep looking for time to fit in a little more, even though nothing much had happened yet. The book is very much in the vein of It, yet it doesn't feel like a swipe. It is still on sale for $2.99 and I would heartily recommend picking it up, if you don't already own it. There are sort of two sequels to the book: A Winter Haunting (which is acknowledged as a direct sequel and is on sale for $3.99) and a sort of offshoot sequel, Children of the Night (not on sale). |

^ That one looks absolutely delicious. I'm somehow reminded of Jonathan Carroll - an excellent writer, by the way.
Got it! THANK YOU! |
