That's all there is to it: you pay your money and then when a new issue comes out it gets automatically moved to your bookshelf and they send an email to tell you it's there. I've had my Analog subscription at FW for about 3 years now.

I'm a little tighter on money than I'd like to be right now - but if I get the chance I'm thinking of picking up Asimovs and possbily Interzone by the 31st - either that or go for the Sten books that Wildside has been releasing. I have them all in dead tree but I want ebooks too.

I'm interested in all comers. I like old and new. I'm more interested in a good story than anything else. About the only subgenre I'm not all that interested in is cyberpunk type stuff. I'll check out both those authors, thanks!

No worries. If I get one and don't like it, I'm not going to hunt you down. LOL Check out the individual copies of Asimov's, Analog or Science Fiction & Fantasy (or is it Fantasy & Science Fiction?). They're really good if you like short stories. You might not like all the stories in an issue, but for the most part they're all worth reading, and they generally are completely different styles of Sci-fi.

Awesome! I think I'll have to get the Asimov's.

I don't read as much Sci-Fi as some, but for a series you can get complete in ebook form see if the Wess'Har series by Karen Traviss sounds good to you. I thought it was pretty good.

The first book is City of Pearl...

I also think FW does a better job with subscriptions than Amazon. They're often a bit cheaper and I hate the nickel and dime monthly charge method Amazon uses.

So, Analog or Asimovs? I am not a huge space ships and dragons kind of sci-fi reader, I like stuff like John Wyndham and Mary Doria Russell. It is just such a good value to buy it now during the sale...

Ever tickle somone? Often the tickled people don't like it. But I don't accuse anyone who did it of being... well, ticklists, or whatnot, or even sexual predators because for some people tickling somone was stepping stone to more. If they say it was just in fun, no harm, no foul. Ever touch someone on the shoulder to get their attention? Some people take offense to that, too. But that doesn't make it assault if there wasn't malicious intent.

They don't, because society doesn't treat both sexes equally to start with.

Now you're muddying the waters again by introducing the ill-defined word "okay" which has many different meanings in different contexts. Is it "okay" to touch anyone in any way when they don't like it? In one sense, no, in that they're not "okay" with it and are well within their right to tell the other person to stop. But that doesn't mean what the other person did was *not* "okay", in that social norms allow for such behavior and a reasonable person may have thought it was okay when instead it turned out the other party objected. It's not always not okay and therefore one should never do it.

So setting "okay" said, was it *sexist*? Again, it can't be sexist only if the person objects, but not if they don't; at least not in the sense of "if it's sexist then never do it." And it can't always be sexist. So whether or not it's sexist lies within the intent of the groper and the context in which the grope occured.

But now you say it's his non-apology that made it sexist, not the act itself, so I guess we can agree to disagree. But at least now we're disagreeing on a subjective interpretation of someone's character; not an objective determination of fact that a passing grope always equals sexist or wrong.

I believe Analog has some science articles in it, not just stories, so Asimovs would be the way to go if you're just wanting fiction. As far as the flavor of Sci-fi, all the mags have a fairly broad view of what is sci-fi or speculative fiction, and they all seem to have a very wide variety of types. You won't get stuck with a space opera mag. lol

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I've checked them out and found some interesting ones, and I'm currently crawling through the Sci-fi section at FW. For kicks I'll post my list of what I ended up getting after I order this weekend.

I've been reading both for the last thirty years or so - though more Analog than Asimovs, and I think you would get more enjoyment from Asimovs. Analog focuses on 'hard SF' to a greater degree than Asimovs which means a a preponderance of engineer-style stories. I'm not familiar with Mary Doria Russell, but most of the Wyndham I've read would fit much better in Asimovs. (I think the Outward Urge - his collaboration with himself as Lucas Parkes is the only Wyndham book that might fit in Analog.)

Having said that, Analog does do novel serializations, and the long awaited sequel to David Palmer's Emergence, and the first book in Robert J. Sawyer's WWW trilogy have both been serialized there and neither is out in book form yet.

As a complete aside, in the paper editions Analog has normally done fiction in two columns while Asimovs does one, and I find Analog much easier to read.

There has been a polite request to keep this thread on the general topic of SF Books on sale at Fictionwise. Please honor that request. Any further posts on sexism, groping, etc, will be removed.

Also give Interzone a go, too. There's also Fantasy and Science Fiction, no dragon fantasy there, pretty much.

Note that Deathworld by Harry Harrison has been mentioned.

It is at Project Gutenberg if you want that one. Don't need to buy it.

It appears The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction isn't included in the sale.
