I was able to JB my out of the box 5.10.1.3 PW4. Thank you to everyone involved. Looking forward to the screen saver hack and trying out the other readers.

Now if I could just get these stupid old magazine subscriptions to go away.

If you mean that your device is one with "Special Offers", that is easy:
Just call Amazon Customer Service and send them money if they ask for it (they might not - just depends).

No not the special offers. When I browse all, I see magazines that my ex subscribed to. I can't remove them, even from the amazon site. I guess this is a known thing. Got amazon to remove SO because I complained about seeing ads for stuff my ex read. Don't mean to hijack this thread though.

Hi today I finally got PW4 32G/4GLTE(bought in JP store)!
It came with the serial starting with G000T3... and out of box firmware is 5.10.1.3.
Is this not compatible with jailbreaking? Nobody mentioned about G000T3 things.

Thank you for replying. Just now I tried. Here's result:

1. Installing "update_pw4_5.10.1.3_factory.bin" - works!
2. Copying "main-htmlviewer.tar.gz" and searching ";installHtml" - works! "You are Jailbroken" text appeared in my library.
3. Installing hotfix "Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.15.N_install.bin" - didn't work. Kindle says "Update Error - An Invalid update has been loaded".

Maybe my PW4 is in incomplete jailbroken state, or just unsupported serial/firmware.
Result end.

Contact the author of the hotfix with your serial number so he can add that prefix to the hotfix. Your kindle thinks the hotfix does not apply to it.

Hi guys,

Long time reader, first time poster. I've had a Kindle Touch 6" for years, but decided I'd finally get something with a backlight. So I purchased an Australian PW4 (no special offers) today and it came with FW 5.10.0.2. I tried to jailbreak with the factory FW but it didn't work, so I installed the Factory 5.10.0.2 FW from the first post, then successfully performed the jailbreak and installed the 1.15 hotfix.

I was well pleased with myself, but since doing that I've now got a Japanese screensaver (woman with a telescope) and have to slide to unlock after entering my passcode everytime. I guess this is the Special Offers screen?

What the hell have I done and how can I get rid of this? The only reason I performed the Jailbreak was to manage collections in Calibre, but if I have to put up with this nonsense I'd rather leave it unbroken and returned to factory with no SO screen.

@NRB73: If you get SO screensavers, then your device is registered as SO on your account. It's as simple as that, the JB is completely orthogonal to SO status.

(And if it isn't registered, then than could be your problem, too. Register & sync, *after* having set up the update blocker).
