You get evacuated out of your house because of a bomb threat, come back a few hours later and all this has happened Wow, things are moving extremely quickly. I wonder how long before the e-book market rockets to prominence as an option when book buying? Seems to me that every day there's a new headline, someone else moving into the business, a new reader or way of reading. The future's looking very bright. |

However, with Fictionwise owning the ereader format, their having to drop Overdrive mobi books, and now their being owned by a larger Amazon competitor (and Amazon selling Kindle books for the iPhone and possibly other devices), I'm not sure that things bode well for those folks who use Fictionwise to buy Mobipocket books.

Nope, it was real enough. A man, strapped with explosives took over a chemical factory not far from where I am now. He threatened to blow it up. They've arrested him, but they're still searching the building for anything he might have left behind. At least, that's what I've been told. Most of it is sketchy at the moment.

It doesn't work. I tried doing this, entering my Kindle PID as one of my mobipocket choices in Fictionwise. I ended up with an 'invalid PID' on my mobi list and never could remove it. I'm guessing that Fictionwise's contract with Mobi requires that the entered PID be validated back to them, and Mobipocket recognized that this was a Kindle PID and said 'no'

Unless I am mistaken that you are pushing for Mobipocket as being the format you recommend in every post. To me your purchased format should be your archival format, or as close to it as possible. And that is not only for convenience but for legality purposes. Down the road it would be hard to argue your ownership of a title you stored in Tahitian Fruitybook format if no distributor sold it as such and you have no other proof of ownership. -MJ

If any business is going to compete with the "Kindle" model then now is the time to do it. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see B&N roll out an eBook reader of their own. The BiNdle? |

The problem might be that Amazon's Mobi format might become the standard just by sheer volume of use. MP3 doesn't have the advantages of OGG or even AAC, but MP3 is the de-facto standard. I'd hate to see ePub ignored because Amazon got there first and made their Mobi format more popular.

more likely is yet another format war in which ultimately the consumer loses out while the mammoths fight it out. the good thing is, the more consumers choose epub over mobi, the more we can influence the outcome.
