Do you see a problem with Amazon owning a grocery store?
Do you shop at Whole Foods?
Will you start shopping there because Amazon now owns them?

Last time I looked there were no laws that say you have to shop at a certain store.

Little secret, unless someone is selling their food stamp card for 10 cents on the dollar (or whatever the going rate is) then how someone spends their SNAP is not really any of our business. If they want to spend it all on organic, farm raised shrimp or on Lay's potato chips, or Walmart's cold rotisserie chicken, that is not our business.

But this acquisition gives them a whole grocery supply chain and distribution system. So they may not shop at Whole Foods, but delivery of the groceries they buy at amazon.com may now be delivered by local Whole Foods employees, or fulfilled by local Whole Foods stores. Or they become Amazon locker locations for perishable goods.

It makes more sense now doesn't it...although I doubt very few or any can afford Whole Foods. They are expensive.
It does explain why they are offering a discount on Prime but it's still ridiculous as many people on SNAP shop at discount grocery stores like Aldi's or Save A Lot and Walmart.

That may be the way things shake out. Even so, I doubt the one (SNAP) was on their mind while they worked out the other (Whole Foods purchase).

And while what you are saying makes some sense, I don't think that will happen. People on SNAP will not be buying seven dollar heads of lettuce and I don't think Amazon would want to offer a service where you can purchase goods cheaper and then pick them up at Whole Foods. Not unless their long term plans were to essentially destroy Whole Foods and turn them into Amazon grocery stores (in which case, they likely would have gone for a cheaper chain).

Just for reference sake...I live in Ohio. There are 6 Whole Foods in Ohio, most near larger more well to do cities.

There are 122 Giant Eagles in Ohio. There 125 Aldi's.

There are Zero Whole Food Stores in a 30 mile radius which include 4 States.... just saying.

But having a Grocery store that Delivers makes since in also being able to use SNAP. I am betting Amazon will lower most of those prices to keep up with Walmart prices.

Katie, if you think Whole Foods is going to try to start price matching Walmart now that Amazon owns them I can only guess you have never been to a Whole Foods.

That would be like saying Mercedes is going to start price matching Honda.

Whole Foods is NOTHING like Walmart. Here are some snipits from their site:
