Keyword Search in E-Readers?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and new to e-readers. I've only just started shopping around, and just had a question: Do most e-reader (e-ink) devices offer a keyword search feature? I think Kindle devices do, but I haven't seen this feature listed by other e-readers so far.

Keyword search is a pretty standard feature. I have Kindles, Kobos and a Nook and they all have that feature. I read on my phone with Moon+ and it has a search feature.

I'm assuming you mean searching in the book you're reading and that's what I'm talking about. It's the only search feature I use.

I just tried a global keyword search and the Kindle does that as does the Nook. I found what seems to be that feature in the Kobo but it didn't seem to do anything. I have a lot of books on board so maybe I didn't wait long enough.

It is the device manufactures choice which feature gets included.
My old Astak used RMSDK (Adobe). The features did not always line up with other devices that ALSO used the same SDK or even the same OEM hardware

You mentioned Keyword Search

All I had was a Search (and a tedious entry method)

To the best of my knowledge, the Kindle is the only one that provides a "global" search capability (i.e. searching your entire library). Other devices only let you search in the book you're currently reading.

Even the Kindle eInk devices can only search all on-device books !

Thanks. How do you do a keyword search on non-touch devices? Is there a physical button or keypad somewhere?

You use the 5 way controller.
On the old Kindle non-touch there is a keypad button.
It brings up a keyboard and you use the 5 way controller to select letters.

In the earliest Kindles, from the first to the Kindle 3, there was a physical keyboard.

In general searching is a lot easier with a touch screen. If the word you want to search for is already on the page you can just long press it and tap search in the menu that pops up. It'll find other occurrences of that word. I use this all the time to help me remember who a character is.

If the word isn't there you can just type in the word on an on-screen keyboard.
