Help Needed. PC calibre freezes

Please help if you can. I'm a new member but have been using Calibre for a while now.
I have an urgent problem I cannot resolve. Whenever I click on 'Edit Metadata' Calibre freezes and can only be closed by using Task Manager (Win 10). I have tried backing up the database, restoring from system backup and even creating a new database. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program and it still freezes. Everything else seems to work as long as I don't try to edit Metadata. I'm stumped. It looks like some kind of system problem but nothing else is affected. This is weird!

Thanks kovidgoyal

That helped me solve this. I had a 2nd monitor that I seldom switch on. Somehow the Edit Metadata dialogue had come up on this screen and froze the main program while waiting for me to do something with it.
Torn most of my hair out trying to resolve this before your input. Thanks again.
