Yes, I know the feeling about needing to get back to Ms. Peabody. I always enjoy them. But right now I'm still reading 1635: The Eastern Front. That will take a while.

Just finished "The Genesis Machine", by James P. Hogan, which I bought from Baen in 2003. Very enjoyable hard SF. Baen description: Quote:

) That doesn't seem available at Amazon, though the audiobook is available. It is a good book.

But that's not what I was referring to here. I meant that many (most? all?) of Hogan's books are no longer sold by Baen at all, although they are still downloadable for people who bought them previously. Perhaps they lost the rights to them when Hogan died.

Currently about 40% through Warbound by Larry Correia, the third in his Grimnoir Chronicles. A good follow up to Spellbound, but still not as good as his Monster Hunters International series. Next up will be Witch World by Andre Norton, which since it has *finally* been released as an ebook is going to jump right over Mount TBR to be head of the queue. |

Just finished "The Laughter of Dead Kings", by Elizabeth Peters. The sixth (and last) book in the Vicky Bliss series of books about a mystery-solving museum curator. In this book, Vicky and her long-term nemesis, John Tregarth, try to solve the mystery of the theft of the mummy of King Tutankhamun from its tomb in the Valley of the Kings. This was one of Peters' final books, and she adds a wonderful tie-in to the "Amelia Peabody" series to it, but I won't say more because it would be a spoiler. A fabulous book, and a must read if you're a fan of the Amelia Peabody series. Highly recommended.

Next up: Rivers of London (or Midnight Riot depending on where it was published) by Ben Aaronovitch. I didn't plan on reading two books in a row that deal with the other rivers of London but that's what it is.

This one took me five weeks to finish. Interesting and original story about androids and free will. Enjoyed it but thought it could have been 100 pages shorter without any damage. Bits of action here and there, the rest dullsville. The story ends on a soft cliffhanger. I'll probably read the next in the series sometime down the road. Rated C+ [3 stars]. Next is Unworthy by Kirsten Beyer. Part of the Star Trek Voyager series. |

I absolutely loved the first two installments of Tregillis' Alchemy Wars series. |
