I suspect all this buzz about the new Kindle isn't going to rush Amazon's announcement. This is probably exactly what they hoped for and I bet they'll let us keep mixing the strew! Barry |

The Forum guidelines say specifically that threads have lives of their own and when it comes to speculation and hopes for a new device, I think it's even wider open than usual. Accusations of favoritism are generally not productive. If you have an issue with a specific post, you can always report it.

And, remember, this isn't the FIRST device....watches, calculators, have had solar for years. This would be an interesting next step. As low energy mesh networking devices spread wide on the IoT, I think we may see more devices using alternate, self-contained power sources. Last edited by ApK; 04-11-2016 at 02:56 PM.

I like the concept, for reading sideways in the bed looks really handy. (With the Paperwhite I have to extend uncomfortably the thumb). But the cover do not protect the heavy part of the device. It must be rubber coating or something, resistant, and nice to hold. I like the official case of the Paperwhite, mine has had many falls, protects very well. If no waterproof, is strange. We have extended autonomy, perfect for long sessions in the beach, camping, extended travels, maybe emergency situations... but in all those cases, waterproof protection would be more than ideal. |

The general consensus seems to be if this is legit we are disappointed. All we get with Oasis is thinner and lighter ,physical page buttons and a case that charges. It's not even waterproof...how could Amazon miss on that one which the competition has been doing for awhile now. |

Too thick to hold one-handed? Rotate and go thin. Too thin to hold one-handed? Rotate and go thick. At Amazon, we want advocates of both thick and thin to be happy.

An employee, or vendor, might get some profit or favor by giving someone advance info, when corporate leadership intended to keep it under wraps. But, yes, sometimes it's a directed corporate marketing tactic, not a leak at all, if that's what you mean. BTW, Anyone post this translation yet? https://www.reddit.com/r/kindle/comm...rom_amazon_cn/ Last edited by ApK; 04-11-2016 at 03:18 PM.

I don't like this weird housing stuff Kobo and Amazon got into (assuming these pictures are real). It looks like changing things just to change things.

I´d like to buy a really new reader for once, it usually takes months until I can order one. I´m happy with my PW2, but the oasis looks like a worthwhile upgrade because it looks a lot faster to remove it from the cover and the PPI is a bit higher than the PW2 as well :-) |

Meet Oasis, the new solar powered ereader. Wishing for a solar powered option in your ereader? Then meet the Oasis! Don't want solar power? Then don't buy it; no one's twisting your arm. Just shut up about it! At Amazon, we've got you covered. |
