I hope they lower the price and sell the case separately. I don't want the case and don't need ridiculously long battery life.

If it's less than the price of my first Kindle 2 (U.S.) with the charging cover (and indeed has a flexible substrate); I might be in. That happens to be how overdue I am for a new eink reader, as well.

![]() We'll see. It's been a long time since I've had to convert ebooks TO a Kindle format. I much prefer buying and reading epubs. For workflow/simplicity reasons (as well as reading app preference)... not idealistic ones. |

It was announced as "top of the line" so I've got a feeling the case will be part of the deal (whether you want it or not). But -- obviously -- I could be wrong.

I don't care. I'm coming late to this announcement and am actually kind of excited about the new Kindle -- after initially being put off by its shape. I wonder if this will replace the Voyage or stand on its own. (I'm kind of hoping they'll keep both, because they're different enough to co-exist.)

yeah, I wonder if top of the line means "voyage replacement at same cost" or priced higher? $300? $200, same as voyage plus an extra $100 for the fancy case?

Since the leaks have already spread, Amazon should just bump up whenever they were going to announce it. |

They probably have to dot their i-s and cross their t-s and do whatever it is they have to do when they announce these things. I'm guessing tomorrow or Wednesday.

At first blush, doesn't look like there is much there for me, so it's personally disappointing. (The anticipation as usual is better than reality. Buy on the rumors, sell on the news.)

The asymmetrical body may be a problem for me, as the thick side may be too thick for my hand and the thin side is weight imbalanced. The on sale Voyage is looking much better, though I need to drive test that slanted back. I wouldn't buy the solar cover (or any cover) but I think it'll be a hit because a/ amazon b/ people like covers c/ people are lazy about plugging in things and d/ people like to fancy they need a solar charger the same way they fancy they need an off road vehicle even though the only action it'll ever see is trips to day care and grocery ![]() PS: I'll be surprised if it has a plastic substrate. That'd diminish the need (and justification) for the cover. |

I am so cynical I wonder if these links are deliberate to bump up anticipation hoping people will order as soon as the page is up and read the detail afterwards.

I too don't see what people have against a solar charger.

I do think it is strange, though, that the Kindle of all things should seemingly be the first device to ship with a solar charger. However useful it is for a Kindle, it would be far more useful for a smartphone or tablet... and yet, no one seems to be trying to convince people they need to get a smartphone/tablet with a solar charger. Even the third-party solar chargers that are available don't seem to get much press, and the Kindle will come with one by default?
