(1) After a lot of try with a lot of iOS-to-PDF 3rd party tools I use to "Send to iBooks as PDF", then email me the PDF from iBooks (the only avail option) and then open it with GoodReader and save it to iOS Notes. (BTW, if someone knows a good Safari-to-PDF tool that worked well please tell me).

But, I definitely find myself using it for pretty much everything... even typing! That's what I'm doing right now, lol. When it's in your hand it feels really natural to use, even better than fingers. I'd compare it to the difference between using a DS (or 3DS) with a stylus and with a finger- strictly speaking you don't NEED to do it, but it makes things a lot easier. So, I guess navigation in general. For things like highlighting passages, it's a lot easier to see what you're doing. Also note-taking with it is nice; I've tried other handwriting apps and iPad styluses and was never able to do much with them, but pencil finally renders things readably, and without frustration. Drawing diagrams is also easier- I was watching basketball with a friend and asked what a "pick'n'roll" was, and the friend (who isn't much of an artist and had never used the Pencil before) was able to grab the iPad out of my hand and draw a diagram in about 30 seconds, as easily as with paper!

Thank you! I will have to investigate some of these other apps. I have ordered the 9.7 iPad Pro and was debating whether to get the pencil. I read a lot of technical PDFs with GoodReader so I can see some benefit there and also the idea of drawing out diagrams and technical sketches.

Each time my mind figures a person drawing or scribing with his finger... Oh, men, even the Neanderthals painted with stylus at the back of the caves! And finally now seems Apple is reaching its adulthood. |

I have merged the new iPad Pro into the wiki page so that the two can be compared. It would seem that the 9.7" made some significant improvements and now there seems to be a need for a new 12.9" model.

I don't know if the 12.9" model needs it for headroom when running the larger display, but it certainly makes a difference to the performance when switching between apps frequently. With the extra RAM they are more likely to have remained in memory rather than being swapped out. Not a huge advantage, but some apps are slow to start from scratch so this is helpful.

I use it all the time and it is very reliable. It doesn't support the Pencil's palm rejection, so occasionally you can trigger one of the buttons underneath the writing area. Hopefully they can address this, but it may be a limitation of custom keyboards not being able to call certain things. Where it works well for me is when I have my IPad on the desk to the right of my computer at work, then I can write easily using MyScript, whereas typing would be harder because of offset. Minor thing, sure, but handy. |

Thanks rfog and Christopher! Tested it myself (with an old Bamboo pen on the iPad Air)!and it is not bad at all! Wish Apple would think of ways to implement this in an even more seamless way Being able to use the entire screen for all text field entries would be great, hope they feel they have recovered from their Newton image, it seems that the tech has advanced quite a bit... |
