PRH (also known to some as the Randy Penguin) has updated their promo site (TryAudiobooks). As a part of their rather significant changes to the look of the site they have added a new freebie. If you are interested in "The Double Bind" by Chris Bohjalian, you can get it for free after signing up for their mailing list (which you have probably already joined a dozen times over to get their freebies - what's one more time among friends?). They don't usually change their freebies rapid fire, but if you're interested I wouldn't wait long.

Indeed, I won't even bother for free. With very rare exception, every time I've tried an abridged book, I've been sorry I did.

Yeah, I knew some people around here feel that way. Personally, I can take 'em or leave 'em. I use them as a barometer - helps me determine if I want to listen to the full monte. I gave the disclaimer so I wouldn't waste anyone's time.

Amazon has updated their Free Whispersync title of (whenever-we-think-to-update-it)*. It's a repeat, though. To get "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum you'll need to first get the Kindle version here, then get the Audible version here. It'll last... however long it lasts.

Am am happy to announce a new way for some of you to get some additional free audiobooks. I say some because they come free with an unusually large purchase, though some of you may have already made it. Similar to the Ford audiobook club, Honda has started the Honda Road Readers program.

This allows anyone who owns a Honda vehicle to sign up and get 5 audiobooks over the next year. They start you off with "Peter Pan" and let you pick the other 4 from a list of children's/YA titles. The service is in partnership with Downpour (Blackstone audio). If you already have an account with them you should sign up with the same e-mail/password.

I've created an account, and this seems legit. The selection of books is for younger audiences, but it is decent. The only thing I'm not sure of is whether you get the credits gradually through the year or all at once. I may try to get one later on this evening and see.

I don't think this is a limited-time offer or restricted to a certain number, but you never know. It allows you to get more freebies if you have more than one Honda (you'll need the VIN, BTW). Anyways, good hunting.
