Now as to the Christmas returns, it is because the person returning the item is not the person that bought it. Though quite frankly I do understand buying someone a gift just so they can return it for something else. Or is they just wanted lots of "presents" under the tree. My thinking is if I don't know someone well enough to know what they like: I don't know them well enough to spend money on. Consequently, I feel the same about receiving gifts. Though the worst gift ever had to be the very cheap bath soaps. The giver knew I could not use them before giving them to me. Rant over.

I missed that. Unlike some other retailers, Amazon, in your #222 graphic, didn't promise to accept the return "cheerfully." They just promised to accept it. I haven't heard where they didn't accept a return. Now, after they accept it, that's when they decide if they still want you to make future purchases. Quote:

Last year I returned an unopened hard drive to a local computer store within a few days, because I decided to order 2 larger ones. Getting out of the car the wind just tore the receipt away and it was gone. I went in anyway and explained what happened hoping they'd have pity on me (it was a brutally windy day), and then I remembered I placed the order for pickup online so they should have a copy in the computer system and I was saved. But had it not been for the online order, I feel the store would have been perfectly within their rights to refuse to accept the return. Most every B&M store clearly states return allowed only within xx days and must have your receipt.

I'm confident saying that Amazon doesn't want people to infer that accounts can be closed for using the return system. It's a very easy thing to say if they intend people to understand that and dishonest if they don't, even if other retailers are just as dishonest

I did think seeing this in the news today was quite ironic. In the UK the right for a refund within 30 days for faulty items is now law http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-34403005 |

However, they are within their right to then refuse to do further business with you after the return. They are within their rights to do that for any reason that isn't discriminatory on the basis of you being a member of a protected class (eg, if they were refusing your business purely on the basis of you being a certain race or sexuality etc). This is not an insult to you personally from me, or even from them; it is just a fact about how business can work. Whether it's good business or not is a whole different conversation.

What most of you don't seem to understand is that they have threatened the existence of my Amazon account. I have thousands of pounds of digital purchases that they could stop me having access to. The 'could' is the issue here. I cannot risk closure of my Amazon account. Not one email has been reassuring in that regard because ALL the emails are standard inhuman replies. I can't speak to anyone. I can't engage with them in any reasonable way therefore I CANNOT behave as a normal customer. I DON'T CARE about future purchases, not from Amazon (I do from Audible who is owned by Amazon) I care about my existing digital purchases, which according to the laws in most countries I don't own. So I have no rights here. Last edited by Josieb1; 10-01-2015 at 02:58 AM. |

We have 2 Kindle ereaders - those can't use collections if unregistered 3 Kindle fires - not sure how they would work unregistered (if at all) 2 fire sticks - useless without an account, and not much use without Prime And let's not forget a large Audible library for which I need to sign in using my Amazon sign on details. |

I am using my Kindles without accessing my Kindle accounts (I keep the Wifi off because of battery usage, as I am in airports a lot these days). I have Kodi on my stick so I can use it wherever I am as my amazon account is German (Germany is my main address) but I travel extensively and end up being most of the time in other countries. I can still access my German account with the stick, but to be fair Kodi gives me access to so much more that I never do anymore. I don't know about my Fire 6...My daughter uses it, so I don't want to test things too much because she'd kill me if I screwed things up on her device, but I'll have a look next week end and will send you a PM if you want.
