My own expectation is that Amazon isn't going to make the case of their kindles more than a few millimeters bigger; if they can fit a bigger screen they might do it--if they can't they won't. And I don't think they can go bigger than 6in with current tech.

My feeling is Amazon is not going to come out with a larger screen Voyage because then they'd have to compete with the H2O in terms of price and that would mean the price of the Voyage would have to drop and then you'd get a knock on effect.

It may not be the majority market, but it definitely has potential to be a serious market. The Kobo Aura HD (6.8") was originally supposed to be a special edition, limited time offer. It became one of their best sellers (according to interviews with Kobo management, not just assumptions). They have continued to develop larger devices to cater those who want them.

My wife and I said goodbye to Samsung. Okay we had only bought one model and we have never been brand loyalty people on anything anyway. Researching the next product is part of the fun. Regarding larger sized ereaders; my take is that that market is for textbooks, illustrated manuals, manga readers, and writers who work out of doors. I suspect that the locked down hardware nature of the Amazon offerings would cause Amazon to fare poorly against the competition. Last edited by Phogg; 09-14-2015 at 08:13 PM.

I have stopped carrying my Kindle altogether when going to places like doctor's or dentist's offices or other waiting rooms. For places like that, I find my simple (and cheap) LG Volt Smartphone with the Kindle app does the trick. Sure, for reading outside nothing beats eInk, but a device that fits in my pocket is generally more convenient when I'm out and about. Still, I'd love one of the next generation Voyage ereaders for reading at home or in the gazebo.

Hasn't anyone tried epoxying a little 'bump' (like a small glass hemisphere or sequin) on there to give this tactile feedback? Keyboards typically have those little bumps on the F/J keys..

It's been almost 3 years since I bought an e-reader (not counting that gawd-awful BooX that I returned with prejudice), and I'm probably doing less than 5% of my reading on my Paperwhite now. It's mostly smartphone for me, iPad after that (especially since the Kindle app typography update), Fire just to read WSJ lately. I would not be interested in a large e-ink device, myself (even if I didn't have the iPad). I think it is actually easier to read text on a smaller screen, big screen is better only for layout and image intensive content. I like scrolling mode as well (Amazon, please add that option to the Kindle apps for Fire/iOS/Android), and e-ink does not do that. But I would like to think that Voyage 2 will be pleasant enough that I'd use it much more than my Paperwhite. I might even chance pre-order just to find out. |

I only have one tiny handbag that doesn't fit my H2O. Most of the time I use a bigger handbag or small wheelchair backpack - more than enough room for my reader, a water bottle, a scarf or cardigan, a wallet... various other bits and pieces. (I wrap the ereader (in a case) in the scarf or cardie.)

Looks better on the Attempto Racing McLaren (but racecars are less handy than backpacks for carrying stuff) Last edited by Yolina; 09-15-2015 at 07:49 AM. |

My Voyage is in a pouch-like case and the rubber coating at the back started to peel. I am not sure if its because of the exposure or it got scratched somewhere but I am VERY very careful in handling my Voyage. So I can't remember any event where my Kindle would've been exposed to scratches...
