The problem is that media consumption is a primary use of modern tablets, especially the premium models. Cloud and home network storage helps but sometimes there is simply no substitute for local storage. And when you consider how cheap storage is at the OEM level...

8 and 16GB capacities are understandable in small and cheap devices in the $100 range but once you go past $200 32GB should really be the baseline.

Are we trying to hard to mix what we want for the price versus the realities of the market? We just need to compare it relative to what's its main competition. Like someone I know is still waiting for a tablet with a removable battery.

All the other competitors in this space start at 16GB of local storage. The problem with Google is they are charging $80 to double your local storage. Others are only charging $50 at each subsequent iteration. With Samsung and Google, there is only one iteration, but at least Samsung has the option for expandable storage.

I wonder if Lollipop will be coming to my LG Volt. The Volt sells for a bargain basement price, but it is a nice phone. It's now running KitKat, so I'm hoping.

Except internal and external SD are not interchangeable. The details are too gory to go into, but only certain data can be moved to external SD.

One problem with having a 16GB baseline is that some stores only carry the base model. Those who carry higher capacity models often have a very small supply them.

If you are impulse buying, you only need the base model - it is cheaper - go in store, see, like, buy. If you know what you want before you enter the store, then you would have done your homework before - including which store has the best deal or which store only has the base model.

That was not an external SD. That was a device you connect to using WiFi. Perfect for what people said here they needed the space for. That is video and music. You also get your video and music available on all your devices.

I use it to share media (especially photos) to and from Windows, iOS, Android, external HDD and micro SD. It's a marvel, but I'd still prefer devices came with more storage on board from the get go.

There seems to a be a wide variety of negatives and positives highlighted in the various reviews. All devices have negatives and positives attributed to them, but at least through the various review sites, those points are fairly consistent.

With the Nexus 9, things that have come up as positive and negative include screen, build quality, performance and even battery life.

Not much consistency thus far.
