E-Ink android tablet? Onyx BOOX T68 Lynx with 6.8″ screen would do. Add a BT mouse and keyboard - and you have your word processing e-ink machine.

The screen needs to be at least 8" to maybe be useful, and really, I think 10" is the minimum for me. I think Onyx or some other European / Asian producer is releasing a large screen Android e-ink reader. With the right software, it should be possible to slave it to a laptop. This will be the best bet.

But I recall reading that there is or will be a device using the same screen as the Sony Mobius screen for half the price. Hopefully we will see something soonish that can be used as a large e-ink screen. But I think it will be an e-reader/tablet that can be slaved, not a dedicated plug-in screen. And expect to pay $400-500, at least at first.

Though my concern in this thread was primarily the sale (or lack thereof) of E-Ink screens which are not bundled with a whole E-Reader device incl. software, I would like to remark on the CAD Reader, that at least personally, I like the DPT-S1 better (let alone it's completely pointless to call a device which doesn't exist "more capable" than an actually existing device, as the article does). I think only the DPT-S1 has plastic and a passive stylus.

The Sony model is twice the price with a fraction of the functionality, and it cannot be slaved to a laptop or other device, so it's useless as a general screen. Sony are idiots.

If instead of this year (as still expected) Pocketbook 13" CAD reader finally arrived by the Summer 2015 I'd be very surprised and glad(if price was under 600 $).

It's not slaved to a laptop. It's typing directly into an Android app on the e-reader, presumably. But at 6.8", it's not worth buying IMO for use as an e-ink screen.
