Actually, since Kobo already tested the waters and sold far more of their $170 model than anyone expected, I probably wouldn't take your opinion seriously even then. Clearly there is a market and a desire for a high end e-reader. Even if you aren't part of it.

Oh, absolutely, yes, I completely agree. What Amazon are now doing is offering three price-points into the Kindle ecosystem, with the Basic Kindle at the low-end, the PW in the middle, and the Voyage at the high-end. I certainly wouldn't see the Voyage as a replacement for the PW, and the fact that the PW remains available suggests that Amazon don't see it like that, either.

 Ordered it yesterday

Should arrive on November 4th. € 249 for the 3G version. Why? Because of the 3G, that's really my main reason. I want to be able to download and buy books wherever I am, not bothering about WiFi or roaming fees and such. I'd like to see waterproof, but 3G + Amazon makes the deal for me already. |

The only reason I don't think that will happen is that I can't imagine what they would then add to keep the high end model different. I don't think just the better body material is enough if they add all of the other features to the PW.

They'll get my money with the first lowered price I see. $200 makes a lot of sense considering my PW1 is still an awesome device. They are charging what the market will bear and I am certain they will drop it as soon as initial sales taper enough. That is SOP, considering I bought their Fire TV on one of their repeating '$16 off' sales. Of course I want the improved resolution and lighting but I am even more excited about the flush bezel (yay, no more food stuck in edges and corners!) and slightly lighter weight. And yes, I wish it was maybe an inch bigger myself, with slightly smaller bezels. I could not care less about the page turn 'buttons,' being fully satisfied with page turns on my PW. |

And I don't care about the improved lighting. I never change my light on my Kobo (although I do use night mode).

If the price were $149, would anybody be complaining? Would anybody buy the PW2? The spread between models is $80 but the luxury premium (the added cost from the "frills") is more like $50, judging by other vendors' hardware. Think of it as the overpay to get the best and the shiniest Kindle. |

It looks like Amazon sold out of some models on the first day of sale. The earliest shipping date for the $199 model has moved from October 21 to November 24.

They say that 85% of the numbers on the internet are totally made up, but you only made up 50% of the numbers in your post, so that's pretty good.

It's like they have LCD envy and want to make eink note like LCD. About higher contrast. Higher contrast than what? It uses the carta screen like the PW2, right? Didn't they c!aim the PW2 had higher contrast too? But it looks just like the PW 1 with a better light layer. Luckily, it'll probably be in best buy so I can look at it in person . But at this point, the 6 in and high price really kill the interest for me. PS: The page press, meh. Pressure sensitive sensor with haptic feedback. I think my KK had those. They're called buttons! And they didn't use battery to provide feedback either.
