... ah, but wait a minute, the following doesn't seem quite right. However, the back button isn't involved.

• Group by first letters is checked
• Open Group drawer - No Grouping
• Tap Authors - Authors expands to show the Authors A-Z subgroups.
• Tap A - opens A subgroup to show 4 A-authors
• Tap Authors again. Error message 'Something has gone wrong...' and the top level Authors line has disappeared, the 4 A-authors still shown.
• Need to tap top line Groups to reset everything.

Does this help or obfuscate further?

Probably obfuscate, because this doesn't happen for me.

On my phone tapping authors again show the different letters as expected.

Mysterious. And we're both using a Galaxy Note 3 with Android 4.4.2 ??? I tried it multiple times with the same reproducible results.

Correct. GN3 and 4.4.2.

I just had an idea that perhaps it was related to the display of <<>> lines. I turned them on, but it still worked fine for me.

A-ha, I think I've tracked this one down. If I have 'Show auto-sorts on groups' checked then I get the error behaviour in post #31. If I uncheck it, harmony is restored.

I get the same behavior on mine if I turn on show autosorts.

As an experiment, I turned off the "show counts" and my system is running a lot faster. Since the counts do not change while you are disconnected, would it be possible to cache the counts at disconnect and not calculate them each time you open a subgroup. On a large library, it makes a big difference.

Edit: or even better. Instead of caching them at disconnect, cache then the first time each group is selected after a disconnect. It's a smaller wait, and if they don't select a group, you never hav3 to calculate for that group.

Can't do this. The counts change because of searches/long presses.

I will look at whether I can improve the queries.
