Kobo Firmware 3.5.0

I'm getting really really annoyed at the Pocket syncing, that it is forcing the reader into doing a COMPLETE sync (including getting new Recommendation tiles every time, and checking for new dictionaries, etc) every single time I simply read a single saved article.

I don't see that. Sure, if I choose "sync" from the homescreen there is a full sync -- but if I choose "Articles from Pocket" from the Library menu, with wifi enabled, it goes to the articles page and just does a quick sync with Pocket.

Hmmmn. No, didn't consider trying 3.4.1 as I thought I recalled it being a Mini-only release. I might try that later on Geoff, thanks for the tip.

Thank you for pointing me to there, I found it, but the part that need to be changed is very specific and since there is no real changelog at all ( this whole part of the forum is a changelog ) And I read some pro's and con's that let me think, if it ain't no broken,better not to fix it..., and I find it not so respectful to people that help me fixing 3.3.1 so nice and good,ask again to help... I see some new bugs discovered in 3.5 and I don't know exactly if and how it gonna hit me,with every new release something is fixed, but a new thing is introduced... I did post at the link you provided me, the part of my old 3.3.1 kpg_conf file that is the most important for me, but I am to afraid to play with it myself, thank you for reply to me !

It was released for the Mini only. But it was also tested on all the devices and a lot of people manually installed it on the other devices with no problem.

Yep, I had briefly installed 3.4.1 on my Aura and it worked just fine

Since we're talking about the Mini (for the last couple of posts at least), I have posted this elsewhere, but it probably should be reported here as well...

Thanks to the advice of @Davidfor and @murg, I went ahead and installed 3.5.0 on my Mini, and can report that it is behaving itself nicely, thank you very much.

Last night I tried to read a Pocket article on my busride home. It repeatedly tried to connect me to various access points, none of which were open hotspots, none of which I had passwords for.

After dismissing that popup three or four times, I said the heck with it and turned off my wifi. NOW the device was CONTINUOUSLY asking me to reenable wifi. As in, I closed the popup and it sprang back up immediately. So I had to let it turn the wifi back on, go to the homescreen, and turn off the wifi from THERE. At that point, it told me it had to cancel the full sync it was trying to perform.

All I did to get into that mess was try to read one article that had been previously saved to my Glo.

That's perfectly normal, Kobo rolls updates out over a few weeks (presumably to spread the bandwidth use out). If it gets to a month with no update I'd look into it but it not surprising it hasn't showed up for some affiliates two weeks in - I'm still waiting myself with a whsmith UK Aura HD.

Well, that would certainly be -- frustrating.

I’ve never any such experience, though I generally leave my wifi disabled to save battery life and only enable it to purposely sync. Is there any chance you have automatic sync enabled in Settings->Syncing and updates, and it just happened to be trying to auto-sync at the same time you were reading a pocket article?

When I said "I thought I recalled" I also meant to imply "I obviously recalled incorrectly."

About to try 3.4.1. We'll see how it goes. Another thing I noticed about 3.5: the Solitaire game does a full refresh with every card move. Very annoying.

ETA: 3.4.1 has the refresh problem for the web browser. So back to 3.2 for me.

In epub it works perfectly. The ToC shows both entries. (I do not upload a photograph as it is pointless).

So it is a kepub (ACCESS) only issue...

I had something similar but only once. My WiFi connection is always off. No auto sync or any other sync.

Installed fw 3.5.0 and did a full sync right after and turned my WiFi OFF again. Syncing took very long btw.
Now everything was up to date again and I wanted to read a pocket article.

First, the device asked for a WiFi connection. Why? I just did sync the device. I did not want perform a sync again and pressed the cancel button. Nothing happened. The WiFi Connection Popup screen would not go away. Tried it again for several times but giving the same result. As I did not want to connect I tried pressing the "X" in the right upper corner of the Popup screen. Which gave the same result and threw me back to the popup screen.
I had no other choice than to open a WiFi connection and do a sync.

As I just performed a full sync my device was already up to date and making this FORCED sync totally unnecessary.
But this forced sync still took over 1 minute to conclude that I was already up to date. Why is that?

Just write a hash file to the device with several hashes (library, dictionaries, pocket articles, reading life, etc.) in it. Compare these hashes with Kobos online hashes and syncing could be done in less then a few seconds.
The current syncing method Kobo is using sucks.

I also experience that force-connect to wifi when trying to read a pocket article. I don't know what triggers it--it seems random. But when it happens, it's really annoying 'cause it won't let you read any articles unless you allow the articles to sync. I imagine people who are outside and have no access to wifi would find this really frustrating...

I don't know if it is just me but I seem to be experiencing more ghosting on 3.5.0. Even with refresh set to 1 page (I know there is a bug with this not refreshing when going to the home screen, or the first page when opening a book from the homescreen) I seem to be getting more ghosting than I was on 3.3.0. Has anyone else noticed this?
