Audiobook or Audible sub-forum?

I find I am doing a lot of my reading these days thanks to my audiobooks. I have both the more traditional cd or cassette tape books and a rapidly growing library of Audible editions. I was wondering if a sub-forum dedicated to those formats might be popular for a subset of users here? It does seem a bit odd to have a subforum dedicated to a format but for me audiobooks are a type of ebook. And a number of players can play MP3 and the Kindle plays Audible books. I've read through the odd thread here and there but don't find anywhere to chat about the reader/narrator or the different editions of a particular title. I just recently listened to a modern take on a pretty classic favorite of mine and found many areas not to my tastes. I think it would be interesting to have a place to discuss this with others who have listened to that edition. Of course there might not be that many who listen to several audiobooks a month like I do. So the interest may just not be there to justify the work to setup something. |

AFAIK reading and listening are two different things. Even apart from the fact, that it doesn't even require to be a high-speed reader to be n times faster than comprehensible speech... To actually equal the active act of reading with the passive perception of someone else's babble. It would sound funny if it wasn't so sad.

I enjoy audiobooks. I borrow them from my local library and add them to my Zune from Overdrive. I listen while taking walks, and also when doing housework (not vacuuming). I read ebooks, too, but audiobooks are perfect when I'm not able to sit down and read.

Also perfect for long commutes in the car. And for swimming laps in the pool. And a well narrated book is an excellent experience. It's not the same experience as reading, but neither is a movie version the same as either.

For me it's compareable with asking a snail to fetch you a glass of water when you're thirsty.

I'm pretty new to audiobooks and I am loving it so far but I don't think there is enough threads about it to warrant its on section. The books go under reading recommendations or deals&freebies and issues usually go under what you're listening to them on (Kindle, Apple, Android, Alternative Devices).

I think if you need to discuss Audiobooks/Audible, they are better posted within the E-Book Readers area. Because most of the issues that would be discussed, would most likely be a problem of the device being used.

Or there are threads about audio books we're reading, and audiobook specials in the General->Reading Recommendations and General->Freebies forums. I really don't see any need for a separate section myself.

I just listen to them on a simple MP3 player. (Who still uses them? ) |

I get a lot of audiobooks via Overdrive through my local library. Works pretty well.

I would like a separate sub-forum. I wanted to start a thread about an Audible anomaly I just found but I don't really know where to post it. It's not about a freebie or recommendation or a device. I think audio books should be a sub-forum under the ebooks formats section. |
