Hey guys,

This is Jessica from CyberRead Support. I'm loving the conversations going on here.

A few notes...

PDurrant:
"I've mostly read Mobipocket ebooks since starting to buy ebooks several years ago. I can't read your Mobipocket offerings."

Is this because all the other instances allowed you to input your PID on the site? You sound like an experienced user but have you tried skipping the mobipocket part? When you download the book from CyberRead, save to your desktop, then drag and drop into the Cybook.

I own a Cybook also but I work off a PC so I'm not speaking from experience here

Lemurion
"I tried both Hot-Syncing and direct transfer to the T|X before going the desktop reader route. Neither gave me any way to enter my PID."

I've had a few customers solve this by installing the latest version of Mobipocket:
http://www.mobipocket.com/en/Downloa...?device=PalmOs

"I did contact support yesterday, so I'll wait until I hear back, but at the moment they're too much work for me."

Did you hear back from me? If I haven't written you yet, I didn't get the email. We've had some suspicious activity lately with Support emails not making it the first time around.

Hi Jessica,

I did get an email from you, which said that my problem was because of my UK credit card. I see that my order is now cancelled, and presumably refunded.

However, I don't think my CC has any bearing on the issue of downloading Mobipocket books from CyberRead without Windows Mobipocket Reader.

I did download the eBook before the order was cancelled, but it was in that odd "DRMed but not PID linked" format that requires Mobipocket Reader Desktop to convert to the normal DRMed format. When copied to my CyBook I get this error message:

"Wrong PID.

Please install the latest Mobipocket Reader Desktop fro automated synchronization.

You can also simply add this PID:
X12QIL1M3D
to your online account and download this book again."

It seems to me that until CyberRead adds a method for users to enter PIDs manually, it won't be usable by non-Windows people who like Mobipocket format.

regards,

Paul

Hi Jessica,

I'd just recently (in the last two weeks) reinstalled mobi on the Palm so I know it's the newest version (I just checked) and that's not helping. I think I'm going to have to be very careful about buying mobi books and not get any from places that don't let you enter your PID manually.

Thanks for responding here though - I never did get an email.

Download ebook to Gen3 via Mac

PDurrant-
You were right about the PIDs not being linked to your cc. We reached out to the Mobipocket crew for some help and they seem to have it figured out (it worked for Clint on his Mac, so finger crossed). I'll send you a code separately for the book you purchased the other day.

Here are the steps to uploading an ebook into your Cybook Gen3 if you are on a Mac:

1. Click "Download" from your CyberRead account
2. Select "Save As" instead of "Open With" and save to desktop
3. Plug in the Bookeen device and turn it on
4. Find the "Cybook Gen 3" icon on the desktop
5. Click on and open the folder
6. Click on "ebooks" folder
7. Take the ebook you downloaded in Step 1 and drag into the "ebooks" folder
8. Drag the "Cybook Gen 3" icon into the Mac's trash
9. Disconnect the Cybook device from the Mac
10. Wait for the Cybook to recognize that it's been disconnected. It should end up displaying all the books on your Cybook.
11. Find the book you downloaded, click on it...and enjoy your reading!

You can view the CyberRead FAQ with screen shots here:
http://cyberread.custhelp.com/cgi-bi...hp?p_faqid=165

Lemurion - I'd like to tackle your issue also. Would you mind logging into http://cyberread.custhelp.com and submitting a short note - unless you don't mind splashing your email addy over the World Wide Web...

Just beware: after you enter your question in the Help interface, it automatically gives you some answers that might help. DON'T BE FOOLED! Below these is the final submit button

I'd just like to say how nice it is to have support from a company appearing in the Mobileread forums.

I have received email directly from Jessica. There's some other strange problem cropped up now, but it looks like we'll get there shortly.

I will, of course, follow up when things are sorted.

Thanks to Jessica and her contacts at Mobi we got everything figured out.

Despite the site's initial teething troubles the support has been consistently excellent and now that things are sorted I'm planning to use CyberRead in future.

In other news, Jessica also told me they are going to go back to manual PID entry, for which I am thankful. It may be a bit more work for the user but it provides a better overall experience.

Great... if they do that and still have their special I will go buy. That will allow me to buy from them using my Mac.

I took a look, but the first couple of books I put into my cart were mobi only. Is there any way to find the MS Word titles? Because those can be loaded onto my device via rtf.

Hey folks. It's Clint from CyberRead.

We are going to allow manual entry of PID entry again. To be quite honest, it was either an implement mistake by our developers or more likely...bad direction from me.

However, we also will not force the user to enter PID entries manually. It will be an option. Most consumers are not wanting to enter PID's...as until we made our changes to the system a majority of our customer service inquiries were around people who "could not find" their PID.

Thanks very much.

I wouldn't be surprised if MR members are more likely to want the manual PID option than the general public. I would expect it's something that most people neither want nor need; but that is very important to the minority that do use it.

Inded, but its also really important for when you change devices, or computers, as have ing the Manual PID option would make it easy to delete the old entry and add a new one.

This is really important when you are only allowed to use one PID

People who use MAC and Linux without Wine or Windows access at home will need manual PID entry as they cannot run Mobipocket Reader.
