Yeah, it's often like that with the UV ("Extreme") or, if not, then "High". In summer (real summer, rather than official summer) we tend to hit the beach at about 3-4-5pm, as often the tourists have moved off then, having blistered their office-pale skin to second-degree burns during the worst part of the day. My family's had its fair share of melanomas in the past, and the Loved One's Irish skin recently had some of the usual suspects burnt/frozen off. "Slip, slop, slap" as the ad' here goes ("Slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat").

i have lots of hats too. it turns out they're also good for cold weather (although not usually the same ones).

And don't forget to always wear sunglasses with max UV protection in as many wavelengths as possible. Exposure to sunlight is a culprit in forming cataracts.

My sister assures me that when she was living in London, the English folk she lived with could always tell the Aussies in the crowd because they always had sunglasses on no matter the weather (either over their eyes, or perched on top of the head). Well, that way, and the beer-swilling, and waving large kitchen implements around and saying "That's not a knife..." to all and sundry, as we do.
