2 helps me decide if this is the kind of story I am interested in
3 decide if the Authors writing style meets my reading style standards
4 Price
If it passes the first 3, there is a good chance for a sale unless #4 is overblown for the genere

The cover and title certainly at first and then the synopsis. The price also plays a part. I mean if it's $2.99 and only a dozen pages it's going to have to really sell itself to me. If on the other hand it's 600+ pages and only $2.99 then it's got a far better chance of catching my interest. Of course reviews by previous purchaser's (if there are any) can also play a part. If they are all bad reviews I'm less likely to buy no matter what the other signs above tell me.

If it's a new author to me, then someone else's enthusiasm is the biggest factor. This can be a bit of buzz on here or on twitter or whatever, or it can be a personal recommendation from a friend, or an award nomination, or it can even be blatant promotion by the publisher, as long as I know that's what it is and feel I can gauge how genuine it is. After all, someone at the publisher liked the book a lot somewhere along the line.

I don't think there's anything a random single book can do on its own to draw me in. I don't take anything the book's amazon page says at face value, and I have way too much to read to take a flyer on an unknown quantity. Maybe if I found the concept particularly intriguing I might look at the sample.

Title / Cover are part of it (that's what you see when randomly browsing books), main selling point are synopsis, and author name. I'm more prone to buying a book from an author I've read and liked.

In that order...it has to have a cover that catches my eye first. There are just too many books to go through. Then I check out the name and price.

If I like the first 3 then I'll click on the book to read the synopsis and If it has decent ratings I'll buy it.

Its the synopsis for me, too, but not necessarily reviews. I don't read them much because I find I allow myself to be distracted by them. So, if the synopsis looks like it might be something I'll enjoy, I read it. If the writing is less than enthralling, I don't finish.

Sometimes I want to read something but cant get into it. If there's nothing inherently "bad" about it, I'll listen in audiobook form. I was like that with The God of Small Things. I just loved the audiobook and have listened twice now, but still, for some reason, find myself unable to read it. It continues to languish in my bookshelf.

I never read reviews, because some people are thoughtless enough to put major spoilers into them. I only check out the star ratings at Amazon and/or Goodreads, and if there are a lot of reviews and the average is 4+, then I assume it's a good book.

It still might not be to my taste, but if a book averages 4.21 stars over 378 reviews, then it can't be all bad.
