Help! how to use customs fonts in PW2
When I register my KPW2 in Amazon.cn and read book in Chinese. Thet push Chinese fonts for me.
I NOTICED that a file named "zh-Hans.font" was established in /system/fonts/
it can be opened by 7-zip and its type was CramFS.
it contains font file and configuration file.
I think it's useful for use custom font in PW2, but I don't know what to do next.......

same as on the PW 1 I would imagine.

rebuild a cramfs with the stuff you want in it and shove it on,

CAVEATS:
A) I have never done it
B) cramfs is readonly, so you will have to make one
C) there are threads on this for the PW1
D) I have NO idea how to activate the new fonts if you added them (note A & C above)

You will need the tools to create a CramFS filesystem.
Which means you will need access to a Linux system - I don't think that such tools are available for Windows.

Also - do not trust that 7-zip correctly re-created the filesystem.
Instead, just mount the CramFS image and extract the filesystem tree using cp or use an un-cramfs tool if such is available.

Can't remember when it's checked (ie. at boot or install) but those are manifested, so at best it won't work, at worst you'll end up with a luminous brick.

I'd strongly advise against playing with this without a shell (maybe even serial, depending how early this is setup) access.

Again, haven't bothered to look into it, but it'll probably be much easier/safer to do it the usual way (ie. fontconfig).

That, and this stuff is PW2 only, so you're on your own .

Ah - good advice.

Since at the moment the only way to jailbreak a pw2 is via the serial port - I had assumed that the poster already had serial port access.

PW1 and 2 do not have all the fonts on them? and they download them as necessary? what happens if you put a chinese book on a kindle that is not registered for the chinese store?

Windows users could use cramfs tools in cygwin, there seems to be one available.
