I don't usually pre-order, but I am curious about it. I haven't read King since Dark Tower 7 was published. I don't find him an especially strong writer, but he is a great storyteller. I like his straight horror better than his other stuff. 11/13/63 didn't look interesting to me, and Under the Dome didn't strike me as anything original and probably way too long. But I love the Shining and will probably check it out when it goes to a bargain bin. |

I've seen at least one online blogger claim Doctor Sleep is King's best work in decades. No "official" review or anything--just a quick twitter comment from someone who is admittedly a long-time fan--but still ... sounds promising.

I decided to just borrow Doctor Sleep from the library. The ebook is way too expensive for me. So, I will be reading it on hardback since I know they won't be able to get the ebook. I'm number 172 on the wait list. Well, I'll get it eventually and I have an endless amount of other books to read while I wait. |

I'm wondering if it is 'stand alone' or actually requires knowledge/reading of The Shining?

I'd say it's written with an expectation that the reader is familiar with The Shining. The story picks up not long after the end of The Shining and carries on the story a little bit before jumping forward a couple decades. There are references to characters and events from the first book that you won't really understand the importance of unless you've read it.

For those looking for price reduction, Doctor Sleep is on sale at B&N for $7.49. You can also use a 50% off code at Kobo to bring it down to $7.49. I expect Amazon to price match soon. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/doct...=9781476727660 |
