Lol. I have been trying out the plugin since this started. I know what you mean. One sequence works sometimes but not always. Does not seem to be consistent. Thanks for your help, I have learnt something |

I'm just wondering if any of your plug ins might address an issue I've found with my new Kobo Aura hd: I've downloaded a large text to my Kobo SD card in the reader and it looks just fine. The issue is that the text is filled with lots of footnotes which I cannot tap and raise for reading while I'm on my reader. The footnotes are easily accessed on my PC, however. You ever run into this issue? thanks. don |

The times I have seen this, the problem was the size of the links for the footnotes. The traditional superscript number or asterix doesn't present a large enough spot to press to guarantee that it is selected. When I increase the font size, it works correctly. But, that isn't practical. The fix I have done is to edit the book and make the link bigger. I think I changed it to the word or phrase the footnote was for. But, again, that probably isn't that practical. It might be possible to add some CSS to make the links bigger. The simple way would be to make them use a bigger font size. Or it might be possible to add extra space as part of the link. Both of these would change the look of the text. And they depend on how the links are coded. |

Hello, I would like to preserve all the annotations and bookmarks that I have written for my sideloaded books before performing a factory reset on my Kobo Glo. I cannot find a way to do this with the Kobo Utilities plugin. I selected "Card" and then selected all the titles. The "Copy annotations for selected books" is greyed out. Why? Is there another way to backup all these annotations? |

@gioele: You have hit one of the inconsistencies of the Kobo firmware: Exactly how annotations are stored depends on the type of book and where it is stored. A copy of the annotations for all types of books are stored in the device database. As you add and removed annotations, the database is updated. But, for ePubs and PDFs in the main memory, the annotations are also stored in a file. This is stored under "Digital Editions\Annotations". The file name matches the path of the book and as the extension "ANNOT". The file is in the Adobe annotations storage format. The device uses this file as the primary source of annotations. When you open a book, if this file exists, it is loaded and replaces the annotations in the database. Unfortunately, there are some bugs in this that mean the order of annotations in the annotations list gets messed up. Lastly, purchased kepubs sync the annotations back to the Kobo server. After a factory reset, the annotations are brought back. All that means that there is currently no easy way to backup the annotations for books on the SD card. You can do it by dumping the data from the "Bookmark" table in the device database. And then restore it after the factory reset. But, I don't have a method to do that in the plugin. The handling of annotations is the part of the plugin that I am least happy with. The annotations display is something I did very early on and haven't revisited. I am more likely to add the function to the Annotations plugin than to fix this. i added the backup of the annotations files because it was extremely easy to do. But, it has it's limitations. A more complete method is needed. |

Hi please can you help me. I have an kobo Aura HD. I have read though the top of this thread and want to install "[GUI Plugin] Kobo Utilities". I have downloaded "KoboUtilities.zip ". Please let me know where I install it into. Do I just copy it into the ".kobo" folder of the USB attached eReader? If not can you please explain it for me. I've read countless pages Titled "What is a Plugin" with such nonsensical directions as Quote:
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It's not a hack for the reader, but an add-on to calibre (library management software)

What you need to do is to go to Calibre's Preferences and select "Plugins" then use "Load Plugin from File" to open the zip file you have downloaded. This will install KoboUtilities for you within Calibre. You will need to restart Calibre for it to show up and work. BobC

Kobo utilities plugin disappears when Kobo Aura connected

Hope this is the right place to ask the question When I connect my Kobo Aura to Calibre via laptop, the utilities plugin disappears from the menu bar. It was working before the latest Kobo upgrade to version 2.8.1, but as I had not really used utilities before except to dismiss tiles I am not sure that this is relevant. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin to no avail, and reset the Reader via the reset button also to no avail. Before I uninstall and reinstall Calibre does anyone have any suggestions or solutions, John |

Remember there are multiple menu batts including different ones for when there is no device attached and another for when there is a device attached. Go to preferences Toolbar and ensure the options you want are on both the Main Toolbar and Min Toolbar when a device is connected. |

Thanks also Helen, I had thought of that, in fact I had hoped that was the solution. Oh well onto the next problem. Cheers

So, I'd like to move all my books from the internal memory to an SD card just in case I ever need to do a factory reset or anything like that. If I select all the books in my library and back up their reading status and all that, would I be able to restore it once I remove the books from the device and move them onto the SD card? A quick swap and everything would be like it was before? |
