I have one issue left with the new backend: adding books sometimes modifies metadata of completely unrelated books, and lots of them (I've seen the Backup Status go from 0 to 3000+ out of 74K after adding some 70 books). I've tried to figure out whet exactly triggers it, but I haven't been successful yet. Disabling Alfs' tools didn't make a difference. Are there other things I could try to get to the bottom of this? |

Generally that will happen if the case of some tag or author or series changes. i.e. if the newly added book has an existing tag, but with different case.

I'll try importing to a scratch library and zapping the tags there to see if it stops doing it.

Hi, I know this is off-topic, but how do I get my calibre library to look the one in the thumbnail? My library just shows rows of books, not like the covers shown in the first post. Thanks in advance. |

You have to have enabled the new database handler. After having done so when you restart Calibre there is a new icon on the bottom right to enable that view.

That resulted in almost 1100 changed records. I'll wait for the next version to see whether that helps

New build available, with the following changes: http://download.calibre-ebook.com/betas/ 1) Option to show titles in the cover view 2) On disk cache for cover view thumbnails 3) Fix adding books changing the case of existing tags/authors/series/custom columns/etc. 4) Add series to the tooltips in the cover view 5) Fix edit metadata dialog sometimes showing undefined dates as Jan 101 (in GMT + timezones) |

When I select a book and open the edit metadata window I can not set the cover or the metadata from any book format using the cover or I icons to the left of the formats area. I get the following error: calibre, version 0.9.43 ERROR: Could not read metadata: Could not read metadata from epub format I get an equivalent error if I try to use mobi or azw3. |

There are also changes to the Book information window (press 'I' on a book). The Book Cover Grid and List will now track the Next & Previous buttons, there's a splitter to adjust the relative widths of the cover and metadata areas, and the Title has been moved to the Top of the metadata area. And the image caching scheme is PDQ Thanks - all working on a 25000 book library on Win 7 64bit BR
