				Reader poll: Preorders
Poll: You learn your favorite author has a new ebook coming out in a month or two. It's available for preorder at the click of a button from your favorite retailer. Q: Do you order a copy now, or do you wait until it comes out? Background on preorders: When an ebook is listed for preorder, you can reserve a copy today. When the book's official "onsale" publication date arrives, your credit card is charged and the book is released to you. |

I usually pre-order it as soon as I know it's coming out. It helps me to keep on top of new releases.

I've never pre-ordered one due to my sometimes tight financial situation. I don't want to get hit with a bank overdraft or something just because I forgot that I preordered books.

If it's a backlist book, I'll preorder it. If it's a new book, I won't, because the initial price will probably be rather high. If I wait for the MMPB release (and goodness knows I've a long enough TBR list) the ebook price will probably halve.

I often preorder paper books, CDs, and DVDs, but I don't believe I've ever preordered an e-book, unless it was free.

Some I do, some I don't. If it's a book I know I'll want to read ASAP I'll pre-order it. If it's a book I want, but will be a bit down on my To Be Read pile, I'll sort it into my "Pre-Order" Wishlist on Amazon. Then once in a while I'll browse through the list and see if any have popped up as ready. Then I'll either order it, or put it in the "Too Expensive" list, and set EReaderIQ to let me know when it's dropped to a price I specify. It all depends on how long I think it'll be after release before I read it. |

I chose "pre-order", but there's only one author on my "favorite, must buy on release" list. I do have other authors I really like, but I don't track their releases and in most cases, haven't yet read all they already have available.

The only time I pre-order if it's free or if it's a limited time sale price that I'm interested in.

I'll pre-order ebooks occasionally. But usually only when it's something I know I'd probably forget all about by the time it comes out if I didn't. Plus, the "magically appearing book" that I'd forgotten about ordering is similar to the feeling I get when finding a package on my doorstep. It amuses me. |

As a regular for the Baen bundles I've been "preordering" for ages.

I will pre-order a book if it's free. I do not and will not pre-order anything that involves a delayed charge on my card. I'm a freelancer, my income fluctuates wildly. I pay for things when I have money, not when other people decide to ship them. |

I'd pre-order if it were cheap, say under $6.99. Otherwise I add it to my ereaderiq list and wait for the price to drop, or check and see if the library has it available to borrow as an ebook or audiobook.

I'll pre-order at Baen because they take my money when I order the product. Other places, not so much.

I have about 5 authors on my pre-orders list. I usually buy gift vouchers to cover the price of the pre-order so I don't get any unexpected charges on my card.
