I agree. Especially with the wasted motion. I see comercials showing an exaggerated page swipe going across the entire page and think - are you kidding me? I have to use that much energy to change the page?!

While I like a little bit of notice that the page has changed, a flicker will do it. I'm reading, and don't want to be distracted. Not even by a page turn. I'm also not at all fond of wood grain in an app. Looks tacky. I like computers and to me, they should look streamlines and sleek. No wood shelves for me on any of my machines.

New to this forum and I guess I have to start somewhere so why not here? For what it's worth, I have a Sony ereader and an iPad and I can't stop reading on the iPad! I know it's wrong but I'm a sucker for that fake page turn! I find myself treating it like a real book where I begin to turn the page before I've finished reading.

So, as long as you hold your finger on the screen, part of previous page will be visible, and if it is not completely visible then just swipe back to unfold that curled part like with real paper. I also read a lot on iPad. Indoors it is about 90 % time iPad (with anti-glare protector and brightness under 33 % in the dark), 10 % time e-ink. Outdoors it is 75 % time e-ink, 25 % iPad (with anti-glare protector, homemade sunshade if needed, and brightness under 70 % in the sun). Last edited by markom; 05-07-2013 at 12:04 PM.

I like the illusion of a turning page. I kept my Kindle app set to this for a few months, and then I got a little tired of the effect and switched back.

I dislike skeuomorphism as done on the current generation of e-ink readers and tablet applications. I do not like having to swipe pages, I detest fake curling pageturns, I strongly dislike seeing fake book-edge. Do not get me started on tacky wooden shelves on display. Grrrrrrr!!! Phew!!! I do like effects - like spinning desktop cube when switching Linux desktops, because it makes easier for me to remember spatially what window is on what screen. I love wobbly windows and tastefully done window minimizing / maximizing animations, I like when icons on a well configured Android device behave as if the swiping motion had some mass and momentum. Effects on a reading device or application irritate me. I do not understand why Kindle offers only following three page margin choices: - very wide - extremely wide - ridiculously wide. This is an e-ink display, NOT a physical page! I want to use all the page to display text. There is bezel on the device that works like [paper] page margin. 5 pixel margin is just great on my other reader. If you really want to do skeuomorphism, why don't you try to use real typography, instead of that awful fully justified text with wide margins and no hyphenation? |

Am I the only one that had to look that word up? Yes? Ok then. I only have e-ink kindles and Kindle Fire tables. I assume I haven't seen what this fancy word is suppose to do? I think I have seen that animation in a Ipad commercial. I mostly just tab my Paperwhite. More like a gentle touch. Unless I hold it with one hand and have to go back a page, then I swipe with the thumb. I hold it in the right hand. I only read a little on my Fire and it works about the same, doesn't it. I don't think I need any fancy animation. I don't use paper books that way. With curling the page in at the bottom. I just slide in from the side. So it wouldn't replicate paper book experience for me anyway. I am so used to the way my kindles do it now using them since 2008. |
