I'm fairly sure that there is a hidden meaning in Mother Goose, I just can't figure out which one is applicable.

9. "There was an old woman who lived in a shoe"?

Bonus: "Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle"? I think there was some link between Hathor and cows, and of course there is a lovely version in "The Fellowship of the Ring".

And yes, you're quite right about "Hey, diddle diddle" and Hathor, and the "alternative origin" given in The Fellowship of the Ring, with Frodo's song at Bree.
