On my Kobo, I'm reading Bound by Honor by Colette Gale, which is an erotic retelling of the Robin Hood legend, and so far, not ridiculous.
And on my Kindle, I'm reading The Body Sacred by Dianne Sylvan, which is a very body-positive, self-acceptance book with a Wiccan twist. |

I finished _Darkness at the Edge of Town_ by J. Carson Black. I rated it 2.5 out of 5.
This is the story of Laura Cardinal, a DPS (Dept of Public Safety) investigator in Arizona investigating the Murder of a young girl. The trail leads her to several states trying to find what "might" be a serial killer. For a book included in the Amazon "thriller" set this book was a bit slow. There was some action towards the end which did keep me reading. However, there are much better books in this genre... so you won't miss much if you skip it. I have started on the next book in the set, _Watch me Die_ by Lee Goldberg. It has a better start and promises to be a good read. I hope so. BOb |

Just started Men of the Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong. It's a collection of some of her short stories and novellas. It has also been sitting on my Kobo for months. :P

I decided to finish The Magician King by Lev Grossman. It might start slow but, wow, it ended up being an amazing read.
Terra Incognita will have to wait as I'm going to read We Need to Talk About Kevin for a book club. |

Finally finished Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. It's a very young YA steampunkish alternate history book set in 1914 at the beginning of WWI. World was unique with man-made creatures and steampunk machines. Explanations were simple enough for young readers. Story continues in his next book but it doesn't end on a cliffhanger. And I must say the illustrations throughout the book by Keith Thompson were excellent especially the end pages. Overall a satisfying read if a bit too YA for me. Rated C [3 stars]

Fellowship of Fear by Aaron Elkins (first in the Gideon Oliver series)
Ok, but suffered from a telegraphed solution that it took the main character a long time to figure out. It moved slowly and I didn't find Oliver that interesting. Bruno, Chief of Police by Martin Walker (first in the series) Half cozy, half police detective mystery. This hit all the right notes, Bruno was solid and charming and real life (good and bad) was reflected in the everyday life of rural France. I'll be reading more of this series. The Man in the Cage by Jack Vance This felt very dated and like a romance novel for men, even though it was a mystery. I wonder if his scifi has the same feel? High Stakes by Dick Francis (audiobook) This one featured Steven Scott, toy inventor millionaire. Scott's the mug and takes revenge on the trainer and bookie who done him wrong. He gets beat up and gets the girl along the way, as usual. Comfy like an old pair of slippers. ![]() Disclaimer: Dick Francis is my guilty pleasure. I love his books even though every main character and every plot is exactly the same. More mysteries await! I think I'll read another Ed McBain next and I started listening to Tears of the Giraffe last night (second in the Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency). Last edited by Synamon; 05-20-2012 at 09:29 PM. |
