For someone who's not entirely sure which model to get (and has the disposable income to shell out for higher end models), I can see how they might pay extra for something they don't need.

I bought the camera kit that provides adapters for USB and an SD card for the iPad and have got almost no use from them at all. I used the card reader once to get some pictures off my camera as an experiment that that's it. Never found a use for them otherwise. Bottom line, if there were 2 iPad models, 1 with a slot and 1 without, I wouldn't pay more for the one with a slot. Not worth it to me. That's not to say it isn't desirable to other people, clearly it is, but I think Apple knows their audience pretty well. |

Even then, 64GB is nowhere near enough and I constantly need to juggle content. The fact that iOS 5 can randomly decide to delete content stored locally is a major concern. Not sure if all the apps I use (particularly comics apps) have been updated to handle that. I mean, I don't need the stuff backed up to iCloud but I don't want iOS suddenly deciding that it can delete something from my iPad. Still sending Viz monthly emails to release an Android app.

Probably a fraction of that; Apple is buying the chip to be soldered on the motherboard (cheaper than an SD card), and buying them by the millions, getting a nice discount.

http://www.marco.org/2011/10/13/ios5-caches-cleaning Apple fixed it in iOS 5.0.1 but I have some apps which don't appear to have implemented the fix. My brother's 32GB iPad 2 was down to 1.2GB free space when it suddenly went up to 7+ GB. Apparently, iOS did its cleaning thing and deleted all downloaded manga from the Viz app. I now have the unpleasant task of needing to re-download 6GB worth of purchased manga from the "cloud". Not fun particularly with the app being somewhat crash prone. Last edited by ilovejedd; 03-19-2012 at 03:55 PM. |

True. And I was looking at high SLC NAND Flash pricing (16GB $13.50, 32GB $25.50). Not sure what Apple uses for the iPad. TLC and MLC are a lot cheaper.

I would love an iPad...but just for the novelty of it...and my kitchen. I'll probably never get one because I don't really don't need it. What I would love to get is a 32gig iPhone 4. *not the 4S* I have the 16gig 4 and it was fine until my nerdy self got the iTunes U app. Suddenly I'm in college again and I find myself deleting all this music I never listen to but for some reason decided I had to have at my fingertips. But...it is also possible that have 21 lecture classes on my phone might just be overkill, too. |

Apple wasn't betting the farm on the new iPad, but if it had been, I think it would have won. iPad sells three million units in less than 4 days. |
