Problems importing - converts files to ZIP!?
Hi folks,
Only used Calibre for a few weeks, so this may have an easy answer (hopefully). I've been happily populating my Calibre library with about 200-odd books so far, and added a few more last night which were a variety of formats (.lit, pdfs). I followed my normal procedure of putting the files into a particular folder on my hard drive, then imported individually - but for some reason Calibre imports them as .ZIP files only. As a result when you try to open from Calibre it takes you into windows explorer rather than opening the file in the ebook reader ![]() I've solved this by converting each file into mobi format, but it seems the setting on Calibre have changed so importing as a zip file is somehow the default ![]() I haven't changed anything as far as I'm aware - and the only thing I've done is import the Kindle Collections plugin. Any ideas on how to correct this? ![]() |

It is normal if you import an HTML file for them to end up in a ZIP. This is because an HTML based book normally has other associated files such as styesheets, images, more html files etc and putting them into a ZIP keeps them all together.
If you add none-HTML books that are already inside a ZIP (or RAR) then Calibre will extract them as long as there are no other files in the ZIP. If there are other files then the ZIP is added unchanged. |

Thanks for the reply.
I can see the reasoning behind html files - but in my case it's doing it even with a plain old pdf! I didn't have this issue before yesterday, so I assume it's some import setting that I've accidentally changed but can't figure where ![]() |

Double check that PDF, it may really be a HTML with the wrong extension that Calibre has detected and filed appropriately.
