delete vs archive

I think I'm confusing either myself, Amazon or Calibre by trying to manage books using both Calibre and Amazons manage Kindle page.

Both my wife and I use kindles (one each). But she doesn't use Calibre. We share a single Amazon Prime account. So I don't want to turn off personal document archiving.

So my question - I don't understand why sometime the choice is to archive a book, while other times its to delete. My guess is that its connected to how the book arrived (from the Kindle store, or another way) but I don't really understand.

thnx,

.

if you are talking about Amazon's archive facility, then you can only archive books that you purchased from Amazon.
any book you delete from your Kindle remains assocated with your amazon account ( i.e. is archived) and can be re-downloaded to your Kindle or to your kindle for .... software app, as many times as you wish. there is a limit on how many different devices/ apps you can download it to, but no limit on downloading it to same device over & over again.

you can also ( irreversibly) delete a purchased book from your Amazon history, via the amazon manage kindle pages, but if you do that it is gone forever & you'd have to pay again to get it back.

calibre has no archive facility AFAIK, so this discussion would be better placed in the Kindle forum.

Well, not quite. It's a bit more complicated

The interaction between Calibre, the Kindle, and Amazon (particularly a prime account) took me a while to figure out - all three play a part. Maybe I'm kind of slow.

When I get a minute, I will write a longer post to outline how things work for me, and maybe people with more experience will help educate me.
Definitely (IMO) a Calibre issue.
