A new watch for me
Dear all,
I would like to purchase a new watch for myself. I have never had a good watch. I think it is time to spoil myself ![]() I have certain requirements for the watch. 1. Case & Strap - Titanium (I guess it is as durable as steel but a lot lighter?) 2. Glass - Sapphire (scratch resistant?) 3. Precision - No idea what is needed for that. What about Atomic, Radio Controlled watch? 4. Good brand for good quality. 5. Power? Hmm. Any opinions about Solar powered watches? Maybe some of what I said above is silly or ridiculous ![]() Please, go ahead and correct me and give me a piece of advice ![]() ![]() ![]() |

So, in short, I don't think anything you said is silly or ridiculous. I suppose budget would be the obvious question, but it would be understandable if you didn't want to share that. |

I haven't worn a watch in what must be fifteen years now. But, if I was to wear one, it would be something like:
Kinetic Chronograph or Kinetic Perpetual They are geeky, powered by humans, and are reasonably simple looking. As mentioned, you could also try Citizen's Eco-Drive watches. I checked the site, some have titanium straps and most seem to have anti-reflective sapphire glass. |

![]() Re: budget. As for now, I don't have any set in stone number. At the same time I don't want/can't afford any fancy staff such as Rolex with prices of £2.500 and above ![]() I would prefer to stay below £500-600 unless somebody points at a model with outstanding feature/set of features that would justify the price. P.S. I have forgotten another feature I need - Date. Not necessary day of a week but certainly day of a month. |

This is a really good watch, it's titanium, atomic, compass, and has touch solar. And I'm not sure but I think it's made in Japan. If you search for Casio Pathfinder watch on Ebay you can find one that is not digital if that suits you better.

I use a $10.00 pocket watch that I bought a number of yrs back from Wal-Mart. The cover keeps the glass covered so no danger of that breaking, the chain doesn't wear out like a leather wrist strap, its battery powered and it even has the date of the month included. It looks something like this but in silver not gold color, and it has a slip on catch (for attaching via a belt loop).

Well, this is my watch.
I've had it about 3 or so years with no problems. It would certainly be within your budget based on what I paid for it. I think it covers all the bases you mentioned (including the date) so it would be a matter of personal preference as to whether or not you like that kind of style or something different. |

Citizen Men's Eco-Drive Skyhawk A-T Titanium Watch In fact it was the first one I was interested in. but I am afraid it is an overkill. Too many functions I will never use. I am a cocooning type. There is another one but again I think it would be a waste of a good product on my hand ![]() |

I wonder what you think about radio controlled watches. Any good? Reliable? How to find the distance to the nearest radio tower?
Titanium? I have heard it is prone to scratches in comparison to steel. If yes, then how bad it is? At the moment there are two watches I think I like and one of them I would say is it too much for me. I only don't know anything about this solar power and radio features ![]() It might be a good thing and might be a marketing trick ![]() Citizen Eco Drive Titan radio controlled men´s chronograph overkill IMO. Citizen World Perpetual A-T Titanium A more suitable one I guess ![]() |

![]() I can see why the less cluttered look of the second one would appeal as well though. It certainly looks like a nice watch. Let us know what you end up getting. Just as a matter of interest, is there anything other than Citizen that caught your eye? When I was looking, I found that Citizen seemed to be the best after the likes of Tag Heuer, Rolex, Omega etc (which were all out of my price range). |

Just out of curiosity I will check Tag Heuer(never heard this one) & Omega. Rolex is too expensive and doesn't have anything I would like anyway. Tissot has caught my attention. Tissot Gents Titanium PRC 100 Tissot Gents Titanium PRC 100 Tissot T-Touch Expert Titanium Alarm Chronograph Watch Tissot T-TOUCH II Titanium Alarm Chronograph Watch They don't have radio control. On another forum they suggested Seiko for accuracy Grand collection Quartz - Accuracy ±10 seconds/ year But quartz, steel and a bit too simple ![]() |
