I'm not sure how visionary he was, espectially toward the end, but he did have a knack for giving a needed boost to under-valued technologies while also helping satisfy some of his longest-standing customer desires. Who had heard of USB before the original Bondi Blue iMac? Who would've thought a UNIX-based OS would make its way into the mainstream?

I was more saddened by the passing of Michael Hart, who not only had a massive impact on the reading world - (look at this site, for example). And he created the concept of the e-book. And look where it's run to. And will run long after he's forgotten. Am I saddened by Steve Jobs death? I am saddened by any person's death. But I don't consider him the great creator that everybody here seems to think he was. Great marketer, yes. Creator, no. My comment was to remind everyone that this was the same person who a few years ago, publicly sneered at the concept of pleasure reading. He was a man, not a demi-god.

Have to chime in and agree Ralph Sir Edward... "a great Marketer Yes, a great Creater NO"... Seems the Crapple fans get these two ideas mixed up amid the crocodiile tears... Nothing like a death in the Anglophile world to make itself seem like the center of the Earth.. Last edited by hidari; 10-06-2011 at 08:36 PM. |

Could be; but then we could've had different products equally as good. We'll never know. He was an effective leader.

Why such a snotty response? Show some respect, if not for Mr. Jobs (which from your previous postings its obvious you have none), than at least for other posters here who are showing their respects.

Was it more than just him that accomplished this? Absolutely, but he was at the helm leading all of those companies. Last edited by kennyc; 10-06-2011 at 12:32 PM.

UPDATE: It's not actually cool to pretend not to care. A wise man once said: if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all. It applies best here. RIP Steve Jobs. He made technology exciting for us; people who don't otherwise care! <3 |

What benifit does it bring to crap on the memories of a dead man? Why not let those who feel a loss grieve it? This thread was to report his death. Others like myself felt the need to say goodbye. That's it. I would hope that those of you choosing to jump all over this with insults and negativity receive a litte more grace at your time of passing. I was neither a fan nor foe of Steve Jobs personally, but I acknowledge the positives his work brought into my life and I wish him Rest In Peace after a long fought battle with a terrible disease! |
