Yesterday I found my kindle on the desk with blank screen. I didn't realize what's going on, so I tried to turn it on. But nothing happened. The screen and the power light didn't react. Then I plugged it to my pc and the yellow light turned on for about ten seconds. But the screen was still blank. At night one of my friends told me he dropped my kindle in the water and he didn't tell me right then! I'm a bit angry, but what can I do? Then I took it apart. I took the battery off and put it back. The green light turned on for about 10 seconds and nothing happened. So, what can I do to save my kindle? Any one with good ideas? |

Contact Kindle customer service - they are extremely helpful. At worst, they'll probably offer you a refurbished Kindle at a heavily discounted price. Send the bill for it to your "friend".

I don't want to buy new K3. I'd rather buy a kindle touch instead. But I really really want to fix it. Is it possible?

I very much doubt it, unfortunately. What I would do is to remove the battery, and leave your Kindle in a warm place for several days - preferably at least a week. Then reconnect the battery and see what happens.

Another trick for drying out wet electronics is to place the Kindle into a container with uncooked rice. The rice has to be uncooked so that it will absorb moister. Leave it covered in rice for at least a day and then see if it will work.

The rice trick has the best chance of working when you try it immediately before trying to turn it on or putting it on charge. The late confession by your "friend" eliminated that possibility. Kindle CS may still replace it for you at no charge...I've heard of them doing that. In the US, the number is 866-321-8851.

I would agree with the previous poster, though: your friend destroyed it. He has to pay whatever it costs to repair or replace it.

I'd say your friend need to pay for it or at least buy you a touch which is cheaper. I'd call CS just to see if they will help you. The Worst they can say is no which I never heard them do. |
