Hey guys, new PE user here. I'm having the same trouble upgrading to 2.2.

I downloaded the zip file, made sure it was named correctly, moved it onto a thumb drive (tried 5 or 6 different thumb drives), and followed your instructions here.

No matter how long I hold down "menu" and "rotate," though, I'm not getting an "Update software" screen. When I release them (after 2 minutes of holding them down), it boots up like normal and I'm still running 1.6.

Any advice?

Also, I'm wondering if I will be able to access Adobe DRM files without registering this through the now-defunct Entourage site. I know I can strip DRM, but I'd kinda hoped I wouldn't have to with this device.

I certainly am no expert here. However, I did get mine up and running thanks to many here, but mosty to the post #5 on page one by wmocny. Delete the files you have for the update from the flash and from your computer or put them where they can't get confused. In wmocny's post use his link to get the file. Be careful as there are 2 files that are close in name. save to your hard drive with the name of "update". Of course no quoatations. Do NOT add the .zip. The computer will automatically do that and if you have done it also, you will end up with what I had. A file called "update.zip.zip" which is obviously not what you want. Once it is save you can drag and drop to your flash drive. I used an 8GB SanDisk Micro SD. After that just follow the instructions. It worked like a charm for me the first time I tried by his instructions. Let us know please. Keep in mind that I used a Micro SD instead of a flash.

I suppose I could use a Micro SD, but I'd have to find one first. I've been using flash. Everything else I followed to a T. Very frustrating.

Oh YAY! I actually used V1.01.001 instead of V1.01, and it totally worked! I also kept holding the menu and rotate keys until the "Updating software" message appeared.

In locked mode nothing seems to function. New to all this, guess I should be happy I accomplished the update with no errors huh?

How do you know it's updated if it's locked?

Hit one of Menu or Home button: tablet side will come alive. If it comes bright white don't despair - just wait a little it'll become dark again, then hit the same button again.
You'll see a lock icon in left bottom corner: tap it and without releasing slide it all the way to the right.

Hi folks - One of the great unwashed masses who recently purchased the PocketEdge from Woot. I had trouble updating to Ermine 0.9 also from a USB drive, and it was only when I held the two buttons down until it actually said "Updating Software" it did not work, and I tried it about ten times before that. Keep holding them down, or just keep trying, eventually it will go!

THough this picture is NOT an EE or PE screen, once upgraded to ermine the method of 'unlocking' and accessing the device is slightly different. In Dingo (Android 1.6) pressing the Menu button twice would unlock the device. In Ermine (Android 2.2) press Menu to energize the LCD and than press the padlock and swipe 'right'.

Gunner, since the padlock is on the left don't you mean swipe right?

GiGi4010, in swiping the padlock icon to the right make sure you keep contact with the screen until you reach the green dot.

Hey thanks for those tips, I already reverted it back to 1.6 but nothing ventured nothing gained, I'll try the whole process again and see where I end up. Sure is nice to have someone to bounce questions off of, thanks so much both Gunner and Ivan, I'll let you know how I fare.

You're a God among men! Who new such a little thing would be complicated. The menu button, padlock swipe worked great! Thanks to you and Ivanjt I can move on to the next hill, downloading apps to work for my needs. You guys really helped!
