Frank Herbert's Dune, for one. And welcome to Mobileread. Edit: Another suggestion occurred to me: Scott Westerfeld's Midnighter series. It's more along the lines of the Potter books, seeing as it's a Young Adult paranormal series (in three volumes, all available as ebooks). The chosen one isn't obvious until the second or third book, if I remember correctly. It's been a few years since I read it, but it was quite good. Last edited by mrsquash; 09-02-2011 at 06:05 PM. |

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. Not like Harry Potter at all, but it definitely revolves around a character who can't outrun his destiny.

It's one of the biggest cliches in fantasy . The Belgariad by David Eddings The Elenium by David Eddings Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks to name a few. |

Garth Nix's Abhorsen trilogy is a slightly more unusual variant. The chosen one is female and a necromancer. The trilogy starts with Sabriel.

its a cliche genre but its easily my favorite type of fantasy. most of the biggies have been named but scroll through some indie fantasy on amazon or your vendor of choice, its rife with them. off hand though i'd say the Eragon series by Christopher Paolini. |
