The Kindle has 4GB memory, with about 3.25GB available to the user. I agree that one doesn't NEED that much: I currently have 600 books on my Kindle (many of which are large omnibus editions) and still have 2.3GB free), but it's better to have too much memory than too little.

Free books from http://www.gutenberg.org/ alone need times more than that.

My actual library is about 40GB. But seeing as how it wouldn't really be practical to store it on all my reader, I confine myself to those books which I feel I may want to read in the foreseeable future. It takes only moments to transfer books from my portable hard disk, after all.

Good heavens no . But for years I just collected every single thing that PG, and various other sources such as the Internet archive, put out. These days I'm a lot more selective. You have to remember that I've been in the eBook game for about 20 years or so, so I've had a long time to "accumulate" things. The overwhelming majority of it is stuff I'll never, ever, look at, but I can't bring myself to hit the "delete" key. Disk space is cheap. EDIT: I exaggerated slightly. I've just checked and it's actually 31.6GB. Last edited by HarryT; 08-30-2011 at 11:22 AM. |

I guess that's one thing I've not had in regards to ebooks. I only get what I want to read, and what I want to read soon. When I get too much of a backlog, I start feeling guilty and want to rush what I am reading, which ultimately makes me less likely to read since I burn out a little.

I just don't think they read this forum. I need to drive up to Sony and demand a job as head of Reader development... Honestly, I would quit my current job for that in a nanosecond; and that's even considered that I'd give up my work-break surf sessions, since Rancho Bernardo is too far from the ocean! -Pie
