Probably because that specific delivery person is a lazy good-for-nothing. But they'd still be like that whether they worked for UPS, FedEx, the Post Office, or anyone else. Unfortunately you get "bad apples" working for any company.

But in the end, remember the phrase "Cutting off your nose to spite your face."

If you really want an iPAD or nook over a Kindle that's one thing. But I assume you chose the Kindle for a reason and that reason is probably still valid. So, fix the problem and get your Kindle.
That may seen odd, but last week my friend received his Iphone 4 using FedEx and he said it was great. No problems at all. Funny how things are is it?

It sucks that you had a bad experience trying to get something shipped, I sympathize, but how is posting a product review even relevant? You didn't even get the product to evaluate! So complain to Amazon CS and UPS all you want, but those complaints don't belong in a product review.

It's like seeing negative book reviews because people just want to bitch about Amazon's pricing. I'm sure the authors love that.
+1000

To OP:
I also get pissed when I read 1 star reviews about shipping problems or anything else not directly related to the PRODUCT you are reviewing. I check Amazon reviews on many things I go to purchase to read actual users of the products review. How the hell can you give the cover a 1 star review when you didn't get it to use it?

You're upset at Amazon and UPS, rightfully so - so you lower the review score on a product that you STILL WANT to buy? Nice job. Sorry about your delivery problems, but wrong review, wrong rating!

not really. As I said, we've had a nightmare of a FedEx driver here for the past couple of years and my UPS driver is actually tops. It doesn't make the iPhone a superior or an inferior product. I don't think any company (Amazon, Apple, Barnes) or whatever can keep a street by street matrix map of what delivery company is optimal for each and every customer.

So again, if you want a nook, iPhone, iPAD or any other device then by all means go buy one. But you chose a Kindle and if you still want a Kindle, then I'd again suggest you just pick the alternate delivery method.

I completely agree with you. Unfortunately you can get lazy delivery people working for any company, but they are very much the exception and not the rule.

Has anyone ever thought that there are only, say, 5 -10 BAD delivery people, and they just keep getting shuffled town to town and company to company? Fired from UPS, applies and starts at FedEx, fired from there, moves to USPS, rehires at UPS in a different city to start the whole thing over. Maybe even under a different name?

Hmmm, maybe it's a conspiracy! Or, or, space people trying to take over the earth, one messed up delivery at a time.

Although I don't order many items over the internet, I have always had pleasant and prompt experiences receiving packages via UPS in Canada, without any issues.

Slightly off topic (I am sorry for all the trouble you've had OP) but all my delivery guys are fab, really lovely and we always have a little natter. Most of my Amazon deliveries come via citylink and my daughter (3) calls him the Amazon Man!

Just sticking up for my delivery guys as they do a fantastic job come rain or shine and they're always smiling.

I have to chime in. UPS is great, FedEx not so much. We've had our UPS guy for about a year. Every time he passes by someone in my family on the street he honks and waves. He doesn't have to do that. It's just who he is and he's always been kind. He even walks onto the property with 2 pugs jumping at him.

It was my mother's birthday a couple weeks ago and my brother bought her flowers. Flowers were mailed by UPS, Ruben (UPS guy) rang the bell and said "christine! happy birthday!" then started to sing to her. We've never had a better "brown" and we've told him that if they switch his route, we will be sad.

I greatly admire many things about Amazon but ... they used to use Canada Post to make deliveries and tat was fantastic. Service was quick, reliable and the backup was the parcel was down the street at th local postal rep (like a drug store). If you weren't home during the day, Mon to Fri, when the postman shows up, you could get it until 9 pm around the corner, and even on Saturday or Sunday.

They switched to UPS a year ago but now, since they only deliver Mon to Fri when many of us are at work, its virtually impossible to get a parcel in a timely fashion. It's a nightmare. There is only one good thing about this development: since all I order now are e-books, the electrons arrive through the air in under 560 seconds and I bypass UPS entirely.

Good news. In the third attempt my friend finally got my Kindle. The UPS guy apologized for the previous mistakes.

Now the only remaining problem is my Kindle cover.

I am a little confused. I thought you said that the package had been returned to Amazon?

I bought two products: kindle and kindle cover. My kindle cover returned to Amazon after three tries. My kindle was delivered after two failed attempts.

UPS Nightmares

chills run up my spine and I break out into a cold sweat whenever a shipper tells me that they only ship UPS. UPS has serious fundamental problems - probably good news for their competitors. For example, just this week, my shipper was forced to call UPS on 4 separate occasions attempting to get them to associate the correct shipping address with the package. Each time, the person at UPS re-entered the wrong shipping address information - even when the address information was phonetically spelled out to the UPS clerk. This same thing happened last year and I ended up having to go down to the depot and pick the package up (not as easy as it sounds in my neck of the woods).

Whenever possible, avoid UPS and save yourself a bundle of headaches.

I almost always have to go pick up my package at their depot (my building isn't a "safe drop", plus most of the time a signature is required anyway.) That depot has atrocious business hours, and when you get there, it's a long lineup that makes you feel like you're in line to buy break in communist Russia. The last time I was there for over half an hour. I once had to wait nearly an hour to be told to come back the next day.

Not a fan.
