netbook + proprietary charger personal audio-video player + proprietary charger mobile phone + charger (that also works for my ereader) ereader I started a paperback on the day of the trip, finished it during the stay, and left it for my mom; I started a library book after that (worked for takeoff/landing, etc. on return). I brought along two other paperbacks (lots of room in my suitcase) that I never touched; I juggled two ebooks as well as an audiobook, and a couple of movies.

I've bought a squat makeup bag thingy that holds all my chargers for travelling and everything gets put in there. And when someone invents a universal charging system where all the connections on BOTH ends are the same, I'll buy them a beer. Have a great trip.

Attached are photos of my mobile phone charger, which also works for my e-reader, and the sync cord that came in the box with my Sony 650. The spools themselves are clear plastic, so unfortunately don't photograph very well (with my crummy webcam).

No, you need to look outside the window at those points! I never could do anything but look, even when I was in the middle seat... But this post reminds me I need to check if I can charge my Sony using the sigarete lighter USB port thingie we have... |

Just a related question: Can't you use ereaders on planes during take off and landing as much as a pb book, even if you turn of wifi (if device is equipped with it)?

this has been a long drawn out conversation/argument here. there are some that are convinced that you will bring down the plane if you use your device when told not to. there are others (myself included) that know that it will not bother the pane electronics at all. I tuck my kindle between my hip and the armrest when the flight attendants are walking up and down the aisle checking on everything. when I hear the; "flight attendants prepare for takeoff" announcement I pull it out and read.

I've had some flight attendants get on my case for having a GameBoy on during landing, and those things didn't have WiFi. It's not just WiFi they are worried about, it's the signal that electronic devices give off that could cause interference with sensitive equipment. Or something like that.

I just have to remind myself that flying is not a right, so I have to play by their rules... as inane as those rules might be.

All it takes is a crew member with a bad attitude (bad mood, overly zealous, for whatever reason just doesn't like you, etc.) and you could end up being charged with disobeying instructions. Not Worth It.

Setting aside the issue of whether or not it's dangerous, the RULE is no electronics during takeoff or landing. The rule does not specify wifi. So the flight attendant could ask you to turn off your reader. eP |

In retrospect, over the six hops I had to recently suffer through (three each way), no attendant ever mentioned that phones used during flight (when electronics are allowed) have to be in airplane mode. Either they've determined that airplane mode is pointless, or they've decided that we all know by now. I'm voting for the former. * For those out of the know, it's a sleep/wake button. I rarely actually turn my iPhone off, and it seems that I have yet to bring a plane down. Attendants have watched me just put it to sleep, and they seem to be happy enough with that.
