				I DROPPED IT!

I said earlier that I dropped my Kindle and all there was were chips on the top left of it, but now just looking at it a bit closer, the thing is actually falling apart after hitting the grass in my backyard... On Day 3. I already contacted Amazon about it. I mean, I can see it falling apart when it hits a tile floor or concrete, but this was grass. And I'm not sure how the casing could warp like that. I can live with the chipping, but what is that with the casing?! I did hear a crack when it fell. I've also been hearing cracks just touching on that side of the device. |

Oh, sorry to hear that - you're so unlucky to drop it on the very third day. More unlucky, the screen is okay and the case is cracked - Amazon might replace your K if it has broken screen but I'm not sure what they might do with a broken case. Never heard anybody broke their cases, in fact. And what did Amazon CS say? |

Always, ALWAYS carry your Kindle in a good case. This is exactly why you need a case. Yes, talk to Amazon CS; they'll probably be able to help you. And buy a case for your Kindle! |

I was in the process of buying a case actually. One of the things I noticed is that all the really nice ones seem to have problems and actually can cause damage to the Kindle. I know it's just a case you carry it in, but I want one that isn't so... I don't know. I sent them an e-mail. I'm not calling CS at 1AM in the morning. |

I made sure of my Kindle staying in the case I bought from Ebay. I found a selection of velcro bits (some are circles and some are rectangular) and used some of the circular ones on the back of my Kindle so when I slipped it into the case the Velcro stuck to the case. I can still get the Kindle back out of the case, but it can't just slip out on its own by accident.

Wow, I wonder if it hit a rock or a sprinkler head or something else that was in the grass to cause that damage. I dropped my Kindle 2 a few months after I got it on to my hardwood floor from about 2-3 feet. The case looked alot like yours Jessica. When I called to have it replaced under the extended warranty, they told me it should have survived a fall like that without damage and they replaced it without using the extended warranty. Amazon customer service is outstanding in my opinion.

UPDATE: I know it didn't hit a rock. All there is on that grass is weeds and grass... But anyway, Amazon sent me an e-mail back and said they'll do a bit of troubleshooting (I wonder what? Did they even READ the e-mail?!), but if nothing helps, they'll just replace it. I'll have a talk with them in a bit and get back to you guys about it. |

You might want to actually call in to CS. Doing the email thing usually results in a canned response.

Just got done with the call, they just sent me a shipping label and are shipping a new unit that'll be with me by Wednesday. Now how do I reset this so it doesn't contain all my personal stuff? |

I suggest getting a case and sent as fast as possible so when you receive your replacement Kindle, you'll have the case to use it with.

Once you've de-registered the Kindle from your "Manage My Kindle" page, click menu/settings then menu/reset to factory defaults.
