I don't think there is any difference. But I could be wrong. Regarding Amazon vs. mobipocket, =X= posted a few pages ago that apparently Amazon recently changed theirs just enough to render it incompatible with mobipocket. ApK

I was referring to a movie quote, but I take it the same way I take this JFK quote "Our problems are made by man, and so they can fixed by man" paraphrasing I think. At any rate, you say tomato, I say tomatoe?? DRM is a roadblock in my quest for truth, and quite possibly for other truth seekers as well. I was taught to read at a very young age and to read whatever I want. To me, making sure I have access to all books is like the prime directive, overriding everything else. |

I don't understand why the Kindle is mentioned in the thread title.

Because the whole point of the thread, and what just about every post has been about (perhaps setting some sort of on-topic record), is the Kindle's ability or inability to use library books. The Kindle was mentioned in the thread title because the Kindle was singled out as being incompatible in the cited article..... Last edited by ApK; 03-31-2011 at 09:40 AM.

For me the prime directive is food, water, clothes, and shelter. Okay, that's four things, but still...

Amazon format IS mobi format just with a different extension .azm and slightly different drm. Purchased mobi and library mobi use the the same drm as far as I know. I don't know how 'recent' the change was but it been there since I've been buying amazon ebooks -- several years now.

Legal or not, ethical or not, most people will never be legally hassled for stripping DRM, but CREATORS OF DRM REMOVING SOFTWARE GET SUED REGULARLY! I'd hate for any unwarranted heat to be brought down on a great free-ware project like Calibre! Aside from the risk of bad publicity, even a frivolous and merit-less legal issue could be a terrible drain for the Calibre team.
