I knew a very old man once, who had a raw egg whipped with brandy and sugar each morning. It was a custom from the days he was a soldier:a horse mounted grenadier. He served in the Army in 1890. |

We used to have a tree in our back yard that produced fruit that looked like that. I never tried eating it or even knew if it was edible. Carpenter bees infested it, and the landlord cut it down, I guess I'll never know.

Ah ... you guys are talking about SASHIMI not sushi. Sashimi is raw fish, usually bluefin or yellowfin tuna. Sushi is sweet rice rolls wrapped up in seaweed (nori) which may or may not have sashimi as one of the three ingredients in the middle.

I can imagine! I used to love talking to my grandmother about her life when she was young, she would have been 100 this year. My grandfather was in the resistance in WWII (a partisan), but he was never much of a talker.

Whilst I have, several times, been drunk on it so I cannot really claim "never again", does anyon actually like the taste of Slivovitz? For those of you who have never tried it, do you remember those animal skin coats called Afghans...when they were wet they had a particular smell...Slivovitz tastes like wet Afghan coats smell.

I've had some VERY good Mexican food, but here in Pennsylvania "Mexican food" seems to mean "something wrapped in a flour tortilla with some kind of sauce on top". What I had, and made was first experienced at La Paloma. Looking at the menu I can see that they no longer have it. It looks very much like this from Lesley's Recipe Archive; Sad Note: The Filipino restaurant "Manila Bay" has closed it's doors.

I resist eating anything that grosses me out That would many of the items mentioned (though I DO like some sushi/sashimi ; ) More seriously, several foods literally make me ill and I don't know why. I will lose them soon even if I cannot taste them. Its physical. This includes about anything with internal organs in it. Those are never agains if I can help it! |

For the OP (or rather, totally NOT for the OP ), I just made some ketchup today. This stuff is chunky, and perhaps a bit "grown-up" though. I found it here: http://whatkatieate.blogspot.com/201...wnies-and.html (note, image-heavy, and also contains recipes for beetroot relish - which I also make - and a chilli burger patty - which I haven't - to make up a nice-looking burger) If you like ketchup, check it out. Nice pictures, not hard to make, and the result tastes delicious (as does the beetroot relish). If you hate ketchup, you probably won't want to click without a bucket handy. Personally, I hate:
enough to make me gag (as they have made me gag). But I'd try anything at least once. Cheers, Marc |
